All right, we're going to talk about testosterone replacement therapy. Who is it for? Who is it not for? And what are the best ways to use it?
We're going to get into this right now. Let's go.
Adam Schafer (2:45)
Remember how this used to be so controversial?
Sal Di Stefano (2:47)
Yeah. So, okay, so this is a big thing now, right? Testosterone replacement therapy has now become mainstream. For a long time, it was a taboo subject. Because testosterone is also a performance-enhancing drug, and because of this, it's a controlled substance. For a long time, getting testosterone from your doctor, if you were hypogonadal, meaning you just didn't produce a lot of testosterone, it was actually quite difficult.
And if your testosterone was within range, even if it was in the low, low end of range, and you had all these symptoms of low testosterone, it was very difficult to get. Well, that's changed. It's actually changed quite a bit now. Now, testosterone replacement therapy is extremely accessible. In many cases, very inexpensive. And the taboo around it has... There's still a bit of taboo, but it's not nearly like it was, definitely not like it was 15 or 20 years ago.
So, it's a good subject because... I don't know about you, Adam, but I'm getting more questions from family members and friends around this topic than I ever did in my entire training career.
Adam Schafer (3:59)
Yeah, I think that's like we said it. I think it's not as taboo. There's far more people more open... There's hormone clinics popping up everywhere, every day.
I was going to ask you if you think that we're going to see a change in the education system for like your general practitioner because of it. So, what you still do see, and I do still get this because I'll have friends of mine that are mid to late 40s, they're describing to me all the signs of like low testosterone. And I'll advise them, like go see your doctor, go get your blood work, find out where your testosterone is, and then more than likely get yourself on HRT.
