You just found the most downloaded health, fitness, and entertainment podcast in history. This is Mind Pump, today's episode. We had Dr. Stephen Cabral back on the show. We love him, he's the best functional medicine practitioner we know of. And in today's episode, he talks about an inflammation test. In fact, we all took the test, and he talks about our results. In fact, we took the test a while ago, so did we improve our score? By the way, if you go to stevencabral.com/inflammation, Stephen is spelled S-T-E-P-H-E-N, and then Cabral, C-A-B-R-A-L, so .com forward slash inflammation, they will send you an at home inflammation score test for free. They'll send it to you for free. So you can take this test and see what your score looks like. Look, if your inflammation is out of control, well, then you're not going to recover as well from your workouts. It can affect things like hormones. It can make it more difficult to become fit, essentially. So again, the test is free. You just pay for shipping. They'll send you the test for free. One more time at stevencabral.com/inflammation.

Now this episode is brought to you by Zbiotic. So this is a company that made a probiotic that was genetically modified. They took bacteria and they changed it in a lab to break down something called acetaldehyde. All right, what's acetaldehyde? Well, when you drink alcohol, acetaldehyde gets released and this causes all kinds of problems. Now normally your liver breaks it down, no problem. But some of this gets released in your gut. And when that happens, you feel like crap. That's what happens. But if you drink Zbiotics before you go out and drink, the Zbiotics, the bacteria breaks down the acetaldehyde. So you drink this, then you go drink and hang out with your friends. And here's what happens to me when I do it this way. I feel way better. Go through our link at 15% off. Go to zbiotics.com, that's zbiotics.com/mindpump26.

Use the code mindpump26, get 15% off. We also have a brand new workout program, Maps Abs and Butts, a full body program. But the focus, most of the training is focused on developing incredible abs and a big round butt. Get this program now for 40% off because it's brand new and I'll throw in to one of these two Maps programs for free, Muscle Mommy 15 or Muscle Mommy. Go to mapsabsandbutt.com, use the code launch, get the 40% off and then we'll also throw in Muscle Mommy 15 or Muscle Mommy. All right, here comes the show.

Adam Schafer (2:44)

Sal Di Stefano (3:00)

Dr. Braul, welcome back to the show.

Stephen Cabral (3:02)

Great to be here.

Sal Di Stefano (3:02)

Yeah, it's always fun to have you on. Okay, so today we're going to talk about some health markers that you say are far more important to look at than cholesterol. These are ones we should pay attention to because they can predict risk of things like heart disease and heart attack.

So let's talk about these. What are they and why are they important?

Stephen Cabral (3:24)

So there's seven markers that we've found to be just far more valuable for predicting the number one cause of death for both men and women, which is sudden cardiac death, heart attack, or heart disease. These are typically a slow burn, meaning they happen over decades, so men can start having real heart disease in their 50s. If you're predisposed, that's why. Genetics do matter, but all of genetics are able to be overcome with a lot of healthy lifestyle factors that we talked about in the previous podcast. But when we look at what causes the plaque to build up in the arteries, or those arteries to become more stiff, these markers are going to be better for that. The first one, and anyone has access to these now.

Five years ago, I wouldn't be able to say the same thing, but now anybody can run these markers for blood work.

Sal Di Stefano (4:10)

So you can go get tested for these?

Stephen Cabral (4:12)

You can do them at home, you can do them just blood work at a lab corp, a quest, wherever you want. So the first one is APO-B. It used to be called or sometimes referred to as APO-B 100
