All right, everybody, we're going to flip the script. We're going to talk about how you can eat more to lose fat or to put differently, why you probably or oftentimes need to eat more to get leaner. That's right. I said it. Let's get to it.
Adam Schafer (2:41)
Inspired by a caller.
Sal Di Stefano (2:42)
This confuses people when I say this. Every single time it confuses people. Yes, the caller that we had is a good example of this. She, and we've heard this many, many times. I'll just paint the picture because someone may identify with this. She was doing a lot. She was working out. I think she said five to six days a week. She was doing cardio on top of it, short rest periods. She was restricting calories, restricting carbohydrates.
And she was trying to get pregnant. The goal was to improve her fertility. Heard one of our episodes, cut everything way down, followed a more appropriate strength training routine, took long rest periods, cut out the cardio, bumped her calories, became pregnant, had two kids, and now she's, you know, her youngest is 15 months old. This woman is eating 2,700 calories a day and following Maps 15 and walking about 10,000 steps a day. That's the entirety of her workout.
Justin Andrews (3:41)
In spite of the recommendation to lose like 10 pounds.
Sal Di Stefano (3:43)
That's right. And so, and this is a common story. This is a common story where people over diet, over restrict, over train, and they get in this weird place where they're like, nothing's happening, what's going on? I can't lose that extra five pounds or 10 pounds. I can't possibly work out more. If I eat any less, I'm gonna wanna kill myself. Like, what is going on here?
And it seems like, it seems like stopping all that eating more would just cause a bunch of fat gain to happen. When in reality, that's exactly what many people need. They need to improve their metabolic health through the process of feeding their body properly and building some muscle and moving in a different direction.
