GLP Peptides, GLP-1s. Never has a medical intervention been as powerful for helping people lose weight as now. Here's the problem. They're also potentially killing people. I'm not being extreme here.
There are some bad things that are happening, and we're looking down the road, and you guys, GLPs are not the panacea that you think. We're going to talk about that today. GLPs, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Oh my God.
Doug Egge (3:02)
Did somebody die recently?
Adam Schafer (3:03)
No, but I just thought I'd open with that to get everybody's attention.
That was a little extreme, huh? Let's all pay attention now.
Sal Di Stefano (3:10)
Yeah.
Like I said, when it comes to medical interventions for obesity, there's never been anything even close to as powerful as GLPs. So GLPs are semaglutide, trisepatide, brand names, Ozempic, Wigovie, and then retitrutide, which is still not FDA approved, but it's kind of on the horizon.
Nothing comes close. In the past, they had Fenfen and other weight loss type drugs were stimulant based, and they had some effects, lots of negative side effects, but they were not nearly as effective as these. People in the studies will go on a GLP and lose 10, 15% of the body weight consistently across the board. Some people even more. So they're super, super powerful, but like anything that has that much of an effect on something that so many people seem to struggle with, what comes along with that is potential abuse and people are ignoring, or at least they're not addressing some of the potential negative effects that can come from GLP use. And that's what I think we need to talk about because I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to see more people in my friend groups, in my circles that are using GLPs that I'm like, why are you using this for weight loss?
Justin Andrews (4:34)
Yeah, I think that's the biggest issue I have right now, is really just, there's people taking on that. I just don't feel like it's appropriate for them to take it. And I don't feel like that message is really being promoted much. It seems like it's-
