Hey, everybody, it is Friday, September 11th, 2026 You're listening to the Mo News Podcast. I'm Moshe Oinounou.

Jill Wagner (0:10)

And I am Jill Wagner. This is the place where we bring you just the facts.

Mosheh Oinounou (0:14)

And where we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to. On what is the 25th anniversary of the 9-11 terror attacks, a number of commemorations happening here in New York and across the country today, Jill.

Jill Wagner (0:25)

Yeah, let's get to the headlines. That is our top story, marking 25 years since the terror attacks on September 11th. What to expect today and how the ceremony at Ground Zero will be different from previous years.

Plus, one in three Americans was not born on September 11th, 2001 A look at how this next generation is learning about the attacks.

Mosheh Oinounou (0:50)

Yeah, one of those remarkable things that I think people of a certain age take for granted, you know, where were you on 9-11? I think without fail, most Americans, most adult Americans, know exactly where they were on that day.

But remarkable statistic, 100 million Americans not born or don't remember that day. And so we'll take a look at how things differ state by state in terms of how folks learn about it. And that includes some information from our Mo News premium community, which includes a lot of educators.

Jill Wagner (1:15)

To politics, Vice President JD Vance headlining the final night of the Republican midterm convention, as he's looking more and more like the presumptive 2028 presidential front runner on the Republican side.

Mosheh Oinounou (1:28)

Yeah, we'll digest what he had to say last night. And we'll take a look at how Republicans are reacting to Trump's promise to give all Americans $5,000. But only if Republicans win Congress. Some Republicans saying, we're not on board with what appears to be a bribe.

Jill Wagner (1:42)

Looking ahead to the midterms, the Supreme Court once again blocking Missouri's GOP-favored congressional map.

But the chaos continues to the economy. Two pieces of news regarding real estate that got our attention. Home sales tumbled in August to their lowest level since last year. But hotel sales are skyrocketing.

Mosheh Oinounou (2:03)

Yeah, we're talking about buying entire hotels and converting them, not renting a room for a night. We'll talk about that trendline.

Jill Wagner (2:10)

And Starbucks is in the next stage of its turnaround. Its cafes are getting a new look.

Mosheh Oinounou (2:16)

Yeah, the new CEO there, relatively new CEO, says that Starbucks is back. Did it ever really leave us, Jen?

Jill Wagner (2:22)

I was thinking the same. And it is Friday. Cheers to the freaking weekend, what we are watching, reading and eating.

All right, today marking 25 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 To mark the day, families of victims gather in lower Manhattan at Ground Zero to read the names of those lost. Vice President JD Vance will represent the White House in New York. He will be joined by all four living former US presidents, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. President Trump will mark the day at the Pentagon. Now, for the first time at Ground Zero, there is a specific moment of silence to honor individuals who have died from 9-11 related illnesses. Until this year, the ceremony had included six moments of silence, starting at 8:46 a.m. when hijacked Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, 9:03 a.m. when hijacked Flight 175 struck the South Tower, 9:37 a.m. hijacked Flight 77 struck the Pentagon, 9:59 a.m. the collapse of the World Trade Center's South Tower, 10:03 a.m. marks the crash of hijacked Flight 193 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and 10:28 a.m. marks the collapse of the World Trade Center's North Tower.

So a bell rings, there is a moment of silence, and then the reading of the names continues. As part of our special coverage of this somber anniversary, I interviewed Erin Jackman, whose sister Brooke Jackman was 23 years old when she was killed on 9-11. She was working on the 104th floor of the North Tower. Jackman tells me that she will be there today.

Erin Jackman (4:10)

Every September 11th, we go down because we will listen for her name. My mother likes to make sure that if Brooke is being remembered, we are there to hear it. And for us, it is just about Brooke and the other people that lost their lives that day, and we stand for them, and we are there to hear their names. I realize there's a whole generation of people that don't know what happened 25 years ago, not just in New York, but it was in the United States. It was an act of terrorism in our city, in our country.
