Hi, I'm Valerie and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetics industry. This is episode 286 and our last episode of the year 2021 I'm your host, Valerie George, and with me today is Perry Romanowski. Hi Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:30)

Hey Valerie, good to see you.

Valerie George (0:33)

So good to see you. On our final episode, we are going to do a mega recap of this year, which went by so fast.

Perry Romanowski (0:43)

You know, it did go by so fast. And you know, the year, well, if you were going to rate the year on a scale of one to five, what just without any explanation, what's your number?

Valerie George (0:57)

Is one good or bad?

Perry Romanowski (0:59)

One is bad. Five, like five stars, the one star, you know.

Valerie George (1:02)

I'm going to give it a two.

Perry Romanowski (1:04)

Okay, two stars for you.

Valerie George (1:05)

People in 2020 thought, oh, this is terrible.

I can't wait for 2021 And I always said, be careful what you wish for. And it turns out it was worse than 2020

Perry Romanowski (1:17)

Well, you know, I didn't realize the next year is 2022

Valerie George (1:24)

Hopefully it's not 2022.0.

Perry Romanowski (1:27)

Yeah, hopefully it's not 2020 also.

Well, my number, I'm going to give 2021, I'll give it four stars. So there we go.

Valerie George (1:39)

That's pretty good. You know, let me split it up. I'd say professionally, it was a two. You know, in a lot of ways, work was great. I have an awesome team. They're so much fun. But from a job stress level, 2021 was very stressful with the supply chain.

I know our listeners may have seen shelves empty, not able to get things, cars are short, all that kind of stuff. It also really impacted the beauty industry.

And it's very interesting because, you know, the beauty industry, I think, actually saw growth throughout COVID. And especially as we're, you know, going through 2021 and inflation is increasing, we just saw a lot of demand and the ingredients in the supply chain and the logistical world, just couldn't cope with that. So for me, I think that's why I gave it a two. Personally, I had a great year. I'm going to give it a four.

Perry Romanowski (2:33)

So, yeah, averaging out to about a three. Yeah, there you go.

Valerie George (2:36)

Okay, yep, yep.

Perry Romanowski (2:39)

So three stars. That's your Yelp review, your three stars.

Valerie George (2:43)

Yeah, it was okay. But I think, you know, we'll get into it next week. I think 2022 is going to be awesome. So I'm not sad to say goodbye to 2021

I'm very excited for next year.

Perry Romanowski (2:54)

Well, I am always looking forward to upcoming years myself, especially with all the new shows we're going to record next year and questions we're going to answer. But that does make me think, how did we do this year, Valerie?

Valerie George (3:08)

We had, as far as The Beauty Brains go, an awesome year. Not only do we have 35 episodes recorded this year, Perry, we had over 150 questions answered.

Perry Romanowski (3:18)

That is a lot of beauty questions answered and asked and answered, really. Yeah, we thank everybody for submitting questions and there's always fun stuff to talk about.

Valerie George (3:29)

And we have a lot more questions that have been submitted and we haven't been able to get to them. So we really appreciate everyone's patience. We've mentioned it before, we prioritize our Patreons who financially support the show, which is ad free, very rare for a podcast that it's not something that's truly monetized.

And then we support our audio questions because we love it when other people are on the show. And then we try to get to everyone else. So if we haven't got to your question yet, you can resubmit it if it's been a few months, but if you have recently submitted, just please be patient with us as we try to find the most interesting things for the masses to answer.

Perry Romanowski (4:06)

I will say that every question that is sent in gets put on our list to potentially answer. And we have, remember that, who was that? Fred, we went back and answered his question from like forever.

Valerie George (4:19)

Frank, there it is. I'll never forget him. Frank and his caffeine with the I.

Perry Romanowski (4:23)

Sure, and we did get to it. So there we go, that's a lot of episodes. You know, we also had a milestone.
