Wrapping Up Folklore: Part 1
The Swiftie and The Scholar
October 8, 2026
Well, guys, we’ve really stressed Uncle Jerry out with this one. He went so deep on the folklore album as a whole that this episode focuses mostly on the prologue and how it sets up this new style of storytelling, different from all her previous albums.

At ZocDoc, we know you care about your health. You wouldn't do that early morning cardio if you didn't. So the fact that your annual physical is overdue just shows how hard it can be to get seen by a doctor.

Sorry, that doctor's not in network.

Diet Coke. Non-caffeinated diet Coke.
Angela McDow (1:08)
That means you're just like in it for the love of the game, you know?
Dr. Jerry Coats (1:11)
That's right.
Angela McDow (1:12)
You're not drinking caffeine.
Dr. Jerry Coats (1:14)
You know, this is me trying. Okay.
Angela McDow (1:20)
Are we ready?
Dr. Jerry Coats (1:20)
I'm ready.
Angela McDow (1:26)

How are you doing, Uncle Jerry? I have stressed you out, I think.
Dr. Jerry Coats (1:46)
You have stressed me out, but I am persevering.
Angela McDow (1:50)
Okay, you persist and resist.
Dr. Jerry Coats (1:52)
It's what I do.
Angela McDow (1:53)
Temptation to quit.
Dr. Jerry Coats (1:54)
Hey, you know, like I said, this is me trying. Oh my gosh.
Angela McDow (2:00)
Okay, so we are here at the end of folklore, wrapping folklore up.
Dr. Jerry Coats (2:06)
Oh, shed a tear. But the tears will ricochet, so.
Angela McDow (2:10)
Oh my gosh, he knows it all now, y'all. This is crazy. Okay, so today, I think this is going to be a couple parter, it seems like we're going to do.
Dr. Jerry Coats (2:19)
Officially a couple parter.
SPEAKER_9 (2:20)
A couple parter.
Angela McDow (2:22)
Uncle Jerry has dug into the lyrics, the album, the prologue that Taylor includes with every album, the actual vinyls and the colors and all the things. So I think we're going, I'm going to let you tell us, I think we're starting with unpacking prologue and things and then maybe we'll move on to the album.
Dr. Jerry Coats (2:46)
Yes.
Angela McDow (2:47)
In the next one.
Dr. Jerry Coats (2:48)
Yeah, that sounds great.
Angela McDow (2:50)
Okay.
Dr. Jerry Coats (2:50)
Yes, I'm going to reveal it all to you.
Angela McDow (2:53)
Okay.
Dr. Jerry Coats (2:54)
Actually, that's a complete lie. He knows it all, he's got it all down.
Angela McDow (2:59)
He hasn't been stressed for two weeks about this.
Dr. Jerry Coats (3:01)
That's right. Well, you know, the deal with going to school, which I have done for a long time, you know, and so the deal with having like multiple classes and degrees is that that old axiom, the more you know, the more you realize you don't know, you know, because like it's every class I took, every book I read, I find out something and I go, oh, I need to know more about that, right? So, I mean, recently, I think I mentioned a few months ago that I re-read Nicholas Nicolby.
And this is my third time around with Nicholas Nicolby. But the first time I was in a class and reading it, and the second time I was teaching it, and so I was kind of pressed for time, and this time I took like two months to read it, and it was so wonderful to kind of luxuriate through the book. Yeah.
Angela McDow (3:55)
Not just having to do it for like a school or something.
Dr. Jerry Coats (3:58)
Well, and I looked up every single thing. It's like, you know, he goes up to York and stays at a particular inn.
I looked up the inn. Is it still there?
SPEAKER_8 (4:08)
Is it? It is.
Dr. Jerry Coats (4:09)
Are you going there? Yeah. I mean, it sounds fun, right? We were in York last year, so.
