Hey, everyone. I'm Megyn Kelly. Welcome to The Megyn Kelly Show and happy Monday and happy August. It's happening. We're slowly inching our way back to the fall, but we still have a full month left and Labor Day comes late this year. There's a growing controversy in the WNBA over men and women's sports. And I got to tell you, I have a lot of thoughts on this. Sophie Cunningham has shown incredible courage. Caitlin Clark has not. These women's coaches are absolute effing cowards. And we have taken one step forward, two steps back when it comes to this issue. I am sick of people who don't know anything about this, spewing their ignorance all over the Internet. Whether it's verbally or through their dumb t-shirts or the attacks on the Sophie Cunningham, who simply spoke truth about how it's not fair to allow men to compete in women's sports. The fact that there's this much backlash against her shows we're not nearly as far along on this issue as I thought we were. And I'm sorry, Caitlin Clark was directly asked to speak on it. And she was cowardly. She refused to do it. It is one thing to inject politics into your sport where they don't belong, like Colin Kaepernick kneeling in the middle of professional football games. It's quite another when little girls are getting the shit kicked out of them in their sport. And you are the most famous woman in women's basketball, and you're directly asked as the issue rears its head in your sport, and you punt on it. You won't say anything. You'd rather let the 12-year-olds handle it. F that.
I see them as very different. And I'm very disappointed in Caitlin Clark, and I'm very proud of Sophie Cunningham, who by the way does nothing other than have Caitlin's back. That's kind of one of her main roles. She scores points and she has Caitlin's back as Caitlin gets attacked in her own league with refs who won't support her. You'd think she'd have some empathy for the little girls who are getting attacked by men in her league.
It's not all about her. It's about other people beside her. But God, she had a huge opportunity. Let me tell you that in this space, a lot of us women, a lot of us who have spoken out on this issue from Jennifer Say, to Chloe Cole, to Riley Gaines and Sage Steel and many others have been waiting for some professional woman who's currently playing in a major professional sport to take the lead on this. It's one thing for, Sage, at least, is a sportscaster. Riley was a sports star at the college level. I'm in news, Chloe was almost transitioned by a rabid industry that heard her say I'm gender confused and started chopping off her body parts. What we need is a star professional female athlete who's currently playing her sport to risk it.
And we haven't had it until Sophie Cunningham, who I respect and I take nothing away from her, but she's not a household name.
She's not. Caitlin is.
Even in women's tennis, Martina Navarro and I agree on nothing politically. Nothing. In fact, we've spent a lot of the past few years attacking each other on X over various political issues. But I have nothing but respect for her on this issue. She's been very outspoken. Where's Serena? Where's Venus? Where's Cocoa Goth? Where's, where's Naomi Osaka, who wore her BLM t-shirts and so on, spoke out on that when it was an issue that didn't have anything to do with tennis. This actually has to do with sport. Where, where's all that courage now?
When we need it the most. I'm sorry, but this is a much bigger deal. There are young women being hurt by the day. We showed you the videotape at a Lowell, Massachusetts of those young girls in basketball getting hurt. I'm sorry, but you do have to say something. You do.
