Jon Favreau (0:21)

Welcome to Pod Save America, I'm Jon Favreau.

Alex Wagner (0:22)

I'm Alex Wagner.

Dan Pfeiffer (0:24)

I'm Dan Pfeiffer.

Jon Favreau (0:25)

Alex and Dan in studio.

Dan Pfeiffer (0:26)

What?

Alex Wagner (0:27)

We're finally fulfilling our contractual obligations to be.

SPEAKER_4 (0:29)

I know, we're supposed to do this more often.

Jon Favreau (0:31)

Dan, I'm not going to ask you why you're in town. You're in town because Alex is in town.

Dan Pfeiffer (0:35)

So why is Alex in town?

Alex Wagner (0:36)

I'm in town because I'm here shamelessly promoting my excellent, essential new book, The Steal, Four Right-Wing Hardliners, One Republican Presidency, Look at that cover. and The Raid on America's Courts. It's actually, the cover is not the best thing about the book, but it's one of the great. It's Barry Blitt, the New Yorker cartoonist, did this, and it is a shout out to the January Sixers who used a flagpole to beat down the doors of the Capitol, but this time it's the four main characters of my book, plus Ronald Reagan using a pillar to break down the doors of the Supreme Court, which they figuratively did in 1980

Jon Favreau (1:11)

Why did you want to write this book?

Alex Wagner (1:13)

I am incensed by the injustice of the judicial branch, and I feel like this group of, they're not bewigged, they're bewigged, they're bewigged. I think the six conservatives are the full expression of partisan corruption, and I wanted to know the origin story of it, and that is what this is.

Jon Favreau (1:28)

I'm sure we'll talk about it later.

Alex Wagner (1:30)

But you can buy a copy now.

Dan Pfeiffer (1:32)

You should buy a copy, and if you're listening to this and you haven't bought a copy, what are you doing?

Jon Favreau (1:36)

Come on.

Alex Wagner (1:36)

You need it because it's going to be turned into a movie, and we do think Jesse Eisenberg would make a great second character for it. I won't go into who I want and which role. I don't actually, by the way, I don't know that it's going to be turned into a movie. This is just shameless.

Jon Favreau (1:49)

Manifest it.

Alex Wagner (1:50)

I am manifesting it, but it's movie worthy. It's a high level.

Dan Pfeiffer (1:52)

Can I help you with the pitch? It's not going to be turned into a movie, and if you ever want to know the story, you have to buy the book now.

Alex Wagner (1:57)

Right.

Dan Pfeiffer (1:58)

In this day and age, with visual culture, some people wait for the movie.

Alex Wagner (2:01)

You're totally right, and the movie could be 2079

Jon Favreau (2:04)

We have been told by many authors before that the Pod Save America audience loves books. is very helpful in moving books and buying books.

Do not let our co-host, Alex Wagner, down.

Alex Wagner (2:17)

Don't let me down. Also, because Ted Cruz has a book about Clarence Thomas that is out now. This is the real story about how Clarence Thomas got self-radicalized both on his own accord and through the Republican networks of the 1980s. It's the real Clarence Thomas story by my version, not Ted Cruz's. And also, let's beat him. Let's beat him on the charts.

Jon Favreau (2:38)

Nice. Good pitch.

Alex Wagner (2:40)

Thanks. That's all we need, right? All right.

Jon Favreau (2:43)

On today's show, we're going to talk about the bad vibes and polls haunting Trump and the Republicans with just 46 days left until the midterms, including gas prices hitting new records, the Fed raising interest rates, and the Supreme Court striking down Trump's plan to restrict mail-in ballots for now.

We'll dig into the latest polls, including the rapid shift in how people feel about the possibility of a robot apocalypse and talk about whether Trump is about to tear down the Kennedy Center because a judge won't let him name it after himself. Then I talked to Nebraska Senate candidate Dan Osborn about his race against Pete Ricketts, why the Democratic brand is so toxic in the Midwest, and that leaked audio of him talking about how Trump voters' lives suck.

Alex Wagner (3:27)

It's a lot. There's a lot of stuff. There's a lot of stuff.

Dan Osborn (3:29)

A lot of meat in that sandwich.

Jon Favreau (3:30)

Let's start with a quick update on the golden age that we were promised by our president. The Federal Reserve voted to raise interest rates this week on the account of the inflation. Trump has made worse by starting a war with Iran and a trade war with everyone else. Gas prices are above $4 a gallon and climbing, while the price of diesel is the highest ever recorded.
