You're listening to The Hammer and Nigel Show. My name is Nigel, Jason Hammer is out, Brian Alvey is filling in and also live in studio. Matt Bair, the WIBC Traffic Beast, you're usually, your appearance usually comes on a Friday. We are all off tomorrow for Juneteenth. Welcome into the studio, sir. I know there is going to be a lot of traffic this weekend.
And where do you want to start here?
**Matt Bair** (0:30)
Oh, man, we can start with Juneteenth since you said it.
**Nigel** (0:34)
The parade.
**Matt Bair** (0:34)
Yeah, there's going to be a parade out at the fairgrounds Saturday morning.
**Nigel** (0:38)
So Saturday.
**Matt Bair** (0:39)
Yeah. If you've ever been around, actually Saturday evening, if you've ever been around the parade with parade activities, Fall Creek, 38th Street, that whole area just goes.
**Nigel** (0:47)
Oh, boy.
**Matt Bair** (0:48)
Yeah. It's same thing with Keystone Avenue. So I'm just telling everybody to plan accordingly. If you're going to the parade, great. If not, you might want to avoid the area because it's not a lot of fun to drive there to begin with.
**Nigel** (0:59)
Don't avoid the parade if you're going to the parade. You know, embrace it. But like just like if you want to avoid traffic, maybe go to the north side or something like that.
**Matt Bair** (1:10)
Anywhere, anywhere is good, you know, and downtown is just going to be packed Saturday morning as well. There's the Monumental Mile, which is, oh, yeah, you know, 5K. Yeah, it's the 5K. Yeah, that goes around. Well, it's like Penn, Meridian, everything north of the circle shuts down. And it's one of those. They call it the Monumental Mile. And a lot of people come in and register for it because they want to set official mile times for themselves. So I won't be running this.
We're talking about people that run like four, four and a half miles here.
**Nigel** (1:44)
Why don't you I mean, you're an in shape guy. Alvy does the Warrior 110
You guys don't aren't cardiovascular guys, though. I feel like.
**Brian Alvey** (1:54)
Oh, I am when I need to be, you know.
I'm in my early to mid fifties now, so I'm at the pinion now. You know, cardio's overrated.
**Nigel** (2:05)
I don't care.
**Brian Alvey** (2:07)
I'm just here to move heavy objects.
**Matt Bair** (2:09)
About the time that you feel that first twist in your knee and you're like, wait, I just got out of bed. That's all I did. It's like, well, yeah, it's I do some cardio. It's good, but I'm not going to be participating in any way. I might do the mini someday. The mini is really cool.
**Brian Alvey** (2:25)
I did an extreme ultra marathon when I turned 50 with my stud young son, Joseph, down there through Brown County National State Force, all that stuff.
**Nigel** (2:34)
So extreme ultra marathon is that more than a marathon?
**Brian Alvey** (2:38)
Yes, 50 kilometers, 30, 30 some miles, 30, 31 miles more than a marathon is at 20 What? That's the last day I have ever ran. I don't run to the fridge at half time now to get another beer. I'll miss kickoff. I don't care.
**Nigel** (2:52)
I have done.
**Brian Alvey** (2:53)
That was my that was my mic drop.
**Matt Bair** (2:55)
I'm out every mile like there were ribs or something, right?
**Brian Alvey** (2:58)
Maybe they had treats and goodies, but I'm old and I'm brittle. So I figured out really quick. You're supposed to stop, check your feet and all that stuff and get little treats and stuff. And I realized rather quickly when I paused, my body was starting to lock up. So I would literally just walk in a circle. I look like a dog in a backyard turning a circle.
And I would just eat the treats and keep going. They're like, oh, this old guy's hard. I'm like, no, no, no. I don't you don't understand. I'll shut down. I'm done.
**Matt Bair** (3:22)
Let them believe whatever they want.
**Brian Alvey** (3:24)
That's exactly right.
**Matt Bair** (3:25)
That's the great part.
**Nigel** (3:26)
What about some traffic? What about exits, ramps, open, closing? Oh, what do we got? What are the big ones?
**Matt Bair** (3:34)
The I-65 construction on the south side, this construction zone that I just loathed from 465 to the south split downtown. It's supposed to be done by the end of the year. They're adding another lane, making a wider I-65. So I guess we're going to be nice or whatever it's done. But part of that every weekend, it seems like they have some kind of new weekend road construction for this. So in this is big time starting tomorrow night. This could affect a lot of people coming in and out of downtown for the Juneteenth Monumental Mile, whatever might be going on.
