It was a really remarkable experience. I will tell you, being in that courtroom, obviously we covered the preliminary hearing in depth here and we watched every minute of it. But being inside that courtroom is a different experience altogether. I will tell you, you just walk right in and the defendant, Tyler Robinson, sitting right there, his family members, there's nothing that will prepare you for that moment.

It's a very small room. It's very small.

All courtrooms are always smaller than people expect.

**Blake** (1:57)
It's very small and you can sort of feel the energy and the ebb and flow of the hearing as it goes on.
And it's just completely different. And what's interesting as well is you sort of get out of that online space where conspiracy theories are everywhere and people are speculating about this and that. When that courtroom in, you've got to answer some very basic fundamental questions. There's only so much wiggle room because the court is going to keep you in check. And it's difficult to explain to people that haven't been in that room. But when you're there, you kind of feel the laws of justice and the wheels of justice rather turn in a really remarkable. You said yesterday, they grind slowly, but they grind fine.

But very fine.

And you can feel that granularity in that courtroom. I mean, parsing over a word here or there or account, how it's being interpreted or some sort of legal precedent.
And it's just really emotional because you can feel that in that courtroom, the facts are so monumental to overcome for the Robinson defense that they don't really have many outs. And I don't envy them, their role that they have to play in this, because there is such a mountain of evidence, from the DNA, to the ballistics, to the confessions, to the surveillance video, to his Discord chats and all this kind of stuff. I mean, I don't know where you go here because...

Well, we saw where they go yesterday, but first, I think for anyone who wasn't tuned in last night, we may as well replay it. It took all day. There was a lot of back and forth. We were memorably talking about how the defense subjected to the sound a tripod on a camera would make if there were too many of them. That would disrupt a fair trial. That's the level of objection we were dealing with. But the end of the day, Judge Graf, he took an hour recess, came out, he read it out. It took 45 minutes for him to read the whole order, but he finally got to what we were all waiting for. Would he bind Tyler Robinson over on murder? And would he preserve the possibility of a death penalty?

The court's determination does not rest on crowd size alone or an assumption assumed probability of wind, ricochet, over penetration or bullet deflection. It rests on the evidence concerning the location and manner of the shot, the documented position of several individuals in and around the canopy area, defendant's opportunity to observe those circumstances and the preliminary hearing requirement that reasonable inferences be drawn in the state's favor.
