Why are celebrities dissolving their facial fillers?
Thanks for asking. You've probably seen the photos of stars like Courteney Cox or Simon Cowell, who've recently revealed a more natural look after removing their facial fillers. Or perhaps you are one of Kylie Jenner's 381 million followers and saw that she had recently dissolved her lip filler. But what prompted this change? What are cosmetic fillers? Fillers are injectable substances that are used to plump up areas of the face that have lost volume due to aging, weight loss or other factors.
They can also be used to enhance features like lips, cheeks or jaw lines. They're usually made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the skin and helps retain moisture and elasticity. Hyaluronic acid fillers are popular because they're temporary, reversible and generally have been found to be safe.
However, dermal fillers do have some drawbacks. For one thing, they can be overdone, resulting in an unnatural or distorted appearance. Some people call this the pufferfish or pillow face effect. For another thing, fillers can cause complications like infection, inflammation, allergic reactions or migration. Sometimes fillers can also interfere with facial expressions or movement. So why are celebrities dissolving their fillers? Well, there could be many reasons. Some may simply want to embrace their natural beauty and age gracefully. Others may have regrets about getting fillers in the first place and felt that they went too far and want to undo their mistakes. And some may have experienced adverse effects from fillers and want to get rid of them for health reasons. However, Jessica DeFino, author of the beauty newsletter Unpublishable, suggests in the Evening Standard, Dissolving lip fillers keeps the trend cycle cycling. I think this trend partly just speaks to the cyclical nature of beauty standards and beauty trends. There's a limit to how much you can inflate your lips. In other words, fillers were fashionable, but now they're not and they may well come back into fashion again. But do fillers ever fully dissolve? According to some reports, the answer may be no. Studies have shown that filler debris can remain in the body for up to five years, with different fillers taking varied amounts of time to dissolve after a treatment to remove them. So it's well worth thinking carefully if you are considering getting dermal fillers or getting them removed. How do you dissolve fillers? The most common way is by using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the filler and allows it to be absorbed by the body. It's injected into the same area where the filler was placed and it usually works within a few hours or days.
However, it's not a magic bullet. It can also cause side effects like bruising, swelling, pain or allergic reactions. There you have it.
