There was a family in Arkansas that did the one thing the Duggars have never done. When they learned a child had been harmed, they went to the police. Imagine that. Their last name is Caldwell. Their father is a Baptist pastor, and his daughter is married to Joseph Duggar. For making that call, the Caldwells were driven out of their home, allegedly, that they had lived in, for years, and left to start over. And the heaviest thing they lost was not the house. It was something no eviction notice covers. The other side of that family handles its own very differently. Seven days after his son was booked into a jail cell in Washington County, Arkansas, JimBobDuggar sat down and wrote him an email. A father writing to his son accused of harming a nine-year-old girl.
A YouTuber later obtained it through a public records request. In the middle of it, before any plea, before any trial, before anyone had said a single word to that child, JimBob wrote this, You've made some terrible decisions, but God has already forgiven you, if you've asked him.
Already. He wrote it in the past tense, forgiveness issued in advance. Remember, he's holding the umbrella, so he must know everything.
Forgiveness issued in advance by a man who was not the one harmed on behalf of a girl, nobody thought to ask. Earlier in that same email, JimBob told his son he was so sorry for what he was going through. He described his son's situation, the way you would describe weather. It's exactly one thing in that email that JimBobDuggar calls ridiculous.
Joseph Duggar is 31 years old. He was the seventh of Rosemary's babies. I mean, Jim and Michelle Duggar's 19 children, and he grew up on television. First on 19 Kids and Counting, and then on its spinoff, Counting On. He was arrested in Tonny Town, Arkansas, and extradited to Bay County, Florida, where he faces two felony accounts, one of them involving a child under 12 It's classified under Florida law as life felony. Life sentence is legally on the table. He's of course, pled not guilty. And he's entitled to that plea, and to the presumption that comes with it. Here is what the Bay County Sheriff's Office says happened. A girl who is now 14 sat down for a forensic interview and described several incidents during a family vacation to Panama City Beach in 2020 where she was 9 And according to the affidavit, the incident stopped after he apologized to her.
She told her father. Her father confronted Joseph Duggar directly. And according to the affidavit, Duggar admitted it. Tiny Town Police that had the father call him back with the detective listening in. And according to that same affidavit, he admitted it a second time. He reportedly said his intentions were not pure.
It makes your skin crawl.
And I have said this before, it would take every ounce in me if I were that father or if I were the officer right there and not pull out a revolver and just not pure with a nine year old. Well, guess what's not going to be pure now? My white wall because your brains are all over it. He posted his $600,000 bond and went home to Arkansas. JimBob paid for it. It's a second case waiting for him in Arkansas and it carries four counts. Four is not a random number. Now you'd expect this family to close ranks. That's been the Duggar reflex for 20 years. And it's a large part of why the name means what it means. It did not happen this time. Most of the siblings actually condemned him, condemned him outright. Jason Duggar, one of Joseph's younger brothers, did not hedge a word. We are disgusted to hear the news about my brother. He wrote, however, this isn't about how it's impacted our lives. He said, he was praying the court system would do its job. And Ginger said something on her podcast that may have landed harder than she meant it to. She said, you cannot be prepared for news like this. I beg to differ, Ginger. I think you can. I think your family has a few reps in this department. I think you can prepare for this, knowing the environment you all came up in. But again, I don't know. I'm not you.
Call me crazy, though. I think this might be a possibility, even though our family had already been through something very similar with one of the other siblings. Can't prepare. Bullshit. The generation raised inside that house is the generation naming what happened inside it. That sharpens the question considerably. If the siblings broke, then who is left holding the line? JimBob and Michelle answered through a spokesperson. They said they were heartbroken over the entire situation, that they were focused on loving their family and keeping Kendra and her children, helping Kendra and her children. That statement names their family, that names Kendra, that names Kendra's kids, doesn't name Kendra's sister, the victim.
