Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Hello and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 273 I'm your host, Perry Romanowski, and with me today is Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.

Valerie George (0:31)

Hi, Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:33)

And is your puppy gonna be joining us today, too?

Valerie George (0:36)

She will be clacking around, and I apologize in advance for that. She's in a very cantankerous mood today.

Perry Romanowski (0:43)

Listeners, if you are a very astute listener, you might sometimes hear a little click, click, click, and that's what that is.

Valerie George (0:50)

Yeah, and I'm like, Kukla, get out of here.

Perry Romanowski (0:53)

Well, on today's show, we got a bunch of questions we're going to cover. First, are natural fragrance safe for sensitive skin? What is a hair glaze? What type of vitamin C do you guys use?

I bet you're all waiting on Baited Breath for that one.

Valerie George (1:10)

Yep.

Perry Romanowski (1:11)

Where can you find heat-protecting products? Are salon products different than store products? And finally, what's your opinion of the newly relaunched Deva Curl?

Valerie, it sounds like we're answering a lot of hair questions today.

Valerie George (1:25)

Big show, and I love hair, so it's perfect. Perfect combination for me.

Perry Romanowski (1:31)

Indeed. But before we get to that, let's do some of our chit chat. Is California still on fire?

Valerie George (1:38)

Well, I don't know if we're still on fire, but it is insanely hot here. We're headed into the throes of summer.

So just trying to stay cool inside. Yeah, that's really it.

Perry Romanowski (1:51)

Well, that's good, because I think we're getting all the ashes over here because it's always cloudy now.

Valerie George (1:57)

Yeah, it's blowing east, so I'm pretty good. But I saw something on Instagram, Perry.

There's a Porchkitty Jr. Porchkittykitty.

Perry Romanowski (2:12)

It turned out Porchkitty had kitties. Porchkitty has three kittens. One is a black and white kitten that I call Tuxedo.

And then there is a gray and white kitten, which I call GT, gray Tuxedo, but GT. And then there's another gray kitten that I just call Lou.

His full name is elusive, because he runs away and is very elusive. So GT, Tuxedo and Lou join the Porchkitty. So now I'm feeding four cats, just instead of one, none of which I own.

Valerie George (2:43)

This is quickly getting very out of hand.

Perry Romanowski (2:46)

It is. Yeah, my wife was pointing that out.

I tell you what, little Tuxedo looks, it's a spitting image of a Porchkitty, except for the white.

Valerie George (2:57)

Yes. Yes, oh yes.

Perry Romanowski (3:00)

Just like Pony. So if you want to check out Tuxedo, you can check out my Instagram, the Joggler.

Valerie George (3:07)

Very cute.

Perry Romanowski (3:09)

Well, shall we move on to some beauty science news? Do do.

Valerie George (3:20)

One of our Instagram followers sent me a link about slugging, and we had a good laugh about it. And I know what slugging is, but I thought for sure Perry does not know what slugging is. So Perry, I sent you the link to this article.

What is slugging and will it actually improve your skin? Did you have a chance to check it out?

Perry Romanowski (3:41)

I did check it out, and from what I can tell, slugging is essentially taking Vaseline, putting it on your face and going to bed. Do I get this right?

Valerie George (3:50)

You have summed it up in one sentence, so everyone can skip reading the article.

Perry Romanowski (3:56)

Yeah, we'll put a link, of course. But yeah, that reminds me of the advice that people give where you put Vaseline on your hands and then you go to bed with gloves on.

Because I could see putting Vaseline on your face and then going to bed, isn't it gonna get all over your pillow and if you roll around a bit? It seems kind of messy.

Valerie George (4:17)

Maybe you have to be a really still sleeper like me.

Perry Romanowski (4:21)

I'm actually quite a still sleeper also, but.

Valerie George (4:24)

You could try slugging.

Perry Romanowski (4:26)

I could, if I cared about such things.

Valerie George (4:30)

Well, here's the thing Perry, I thought you'd be a little more excited because slugging is essentially taking petrolatum or something very, very occlusive and putting it all over your skin, preferably a dry skin type would do this. And I thought you'd be pretty excited people are using petrolatum at a hundred percent.
