Hold on, why would anyone want to do that? For starters, to give their notice in style, but more importantly, to call their employers out for unacceptable behaviour. American Shana Blackwell is seen as having started the quit my job trend. In autumn 2020, she made the following announcement over her Walmart store's PA system.

She also accused her colleagues and managers of racist and sexist comments, identifying several of them by name. Furthermore, she posted a video of herself making the announcement on TikTok, which has since been viewed over 35 million times, racking up 50,000 likes.
It led to a snowball effect with the resulting hashtag quit my job. Aside from inspiring some to walk out on their jobs with fanfare, it empowered many people to call out their unethical employers. It turns out Shana is not alone. In April 2021, a record 4 million Americans quit their jobs. The phenomenon may have been new for TikTok, but it's not unheard of. It depends on what they post. According to employment law firm Jackson Spencer, a company cannot fire anyone for posting truthful information about the safety of working conditions, including cases of harassment, the intention to support or join a union, or messages to co-workers suggesting they contact a lawyer. Still, if you'd like to keep your job, it's a good idea to watch what you say online. And even if you are determined to hand in your resignation along with the expose, be sure to consider the following questions. If I quit my job publicly, will I be able to find a new one quickly and easily? Will the new employer be willing to trust me and hire me, knowing I may tarnish their reputation at some point? Always keep in mind that a simple Google search is capable of putting a dent in a candidate's job application.
