On June 16th, 2023, the forecast for Temple, Texas was hot and muggy. The high would hit 103 degrees. 22-year-old Haleigh Murphy started her day, as she often did, on the phone with her mom, Becky Mitchell.

We talked probably 45 minutes while I got ready for work. She told me about her going to go to her ex-boyfriend's yacht party.

**Josh Mankiewicz** (2:17)
Later that day, Haleigh asked her sister, Harley Murphy, to help her pack for that weekend getaway. She wanted you to pick out some outfits for her.

Yeah.

**Harley Murphy** (2:27)
She has so many clothes. She was like, I have like 30 bathing suits and I need to just pick three. Can you help?

Nothing about that day seemed unusual to Haleigh's family. They were close.

Haleigh loved family.

She was very protective of the people that she cared about.
