Introducing Meta Glasses. You have questions, they've got answers.
**Luke Lafreniere** (0:05)
Hey Meta, what's the capital of Peru?
**Daniel Woodhouse** (0:08)
Lima.
**SPEAKER_4** (0:09)
How do you say, where's the restroom in Spanish?
**Luke Lafreniere** (0:12)
Dónde está el baño?
**Linus Sebastian** (0:14)
Hey Meta, is a hot dog a sandwich?
**Luke Lafreniere** (0:17)
Technically no. Spiritually, yes.
**SPEAKER_4** (0:20)
Hey Meta, what should I do with my life?
**Linus Sebastian** (0:23)
That's one of life's biggest questions. What do you think? Ask anything with the new Meta Glasses.
What's up, everybody? It's been a chill week. Welcome to The WAN Show. I built a chicken coop.
**Luke Lafreniere** (0:36)
I did not have a chill week.
**Linus Sebastian** (0:38)
Nice. You know what else happened this week? All kinds of stuff. California wants to ban 3D printers that can't detect when a gun is being printed, and oh, oh, terrible news of terrible news.
Minecraft is getting a significant system requirements upgrade, which is to say that you are downgrading how easy the game is to run, but you'll have to upgrade your PC in order to play Minecraft. What else we got this week?
**Luke Lafreniere** (1:12)
GOG, good old games, confirms that GOG Galaxy for Linux is in the works. That's exciting.
**Linus Sebastian** (1:18)
That's solid.
**Luke Lafreniere** (1:19)
Another win. And also apparently, the US Department of DUT Justice has decided that deleting files is illegal now.
Yeah.
**Linus Sebastian** (1:49)
The show is brought to you today by OpManager Nexus, Wispr Flow, MotionGrey and Ahrefs, alongside our rap partner Dbrand, laptop partner Razer, and our chair partner also Razer. Why don't we jump right into our headline topic, which is of course, the big controversy this week. Minecraft system requirements have been bumped for the first time in 17 years. That's right, folks.
**Luke Lafreniere** (2:13)
The big controversy this week?
**Linus Sebastian** (2:16)
The official meme, but can it run Minecraft? The classic, the original, okay, not the original. Can it run Crisis was the original, but can it run Minecraft was the meme version.
**Luke Lafreniere** (2:27)
I don't think I ever heard that.
**Linus Sebastian** (2:29)
But can it run Minecraft?
**Luke Lafreniere** (2:30)
Yeah.
**Linus Sebastian** (2:31)
What are you talking about? That's such a thing.
I'm like playing Minecraft on something. Dude, Minecraft, yes. Yes, 100%. Anyway, Minecraft Java Edition, the original PC version of Minecraft for Windows, Mac, and Linux is going from, oh, oh, good lord, wow, oh, wow, these requirements. These requirements.
**Luke Lafreniere** (2:54)
It's not too much, but it is quite a jump.
**Linus Sebastian** (2:56)
For minimum requirements, the game is now targeting 1080p at 30 FPS on the fast preset, and to do that, you will need, and I quote folks, a 64-bit system. Oh.
That is 60 bits plus 4 That's 70 minus 6 bits. You're gonna need 64 of them, 64 bits.
**Luke Lafreniere** (3:18)
8 more than 92?
**Linus Sebastian** (3:19)
You will need 8 billion bytes of RAM, or 64 billion bits of RAM, okay? That's if you have a discrete GPU.
**Luke Lafreniere** (3:30)
That's a lot of bits of RAM.
**Linus Sebastian** (3:31)
If you are running integrated graphics, you will need 12 billion bytes of RAM, and I can't quickly do 12 times 8 in my head, so we don't even know how much that is. It could be 96, it could be 92 We're not sure, nobody knows. You will need a four-core processor.
Good lord. I mean, oh, you might have to have a PC from 2006
You will also need a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with at least two billion bytes of VRAM. Now, I'm obviously memeing on this a little bit because you could probably, literally, I have found computers on the side of the road.
**Luke Lafreniere** (4:23)
That could run this.
**Linus Sebastian** (4:24)
That could run Minecraft.
**Luke Lafreniere** (4:25)
Genuinely.
**Linus Sebastian** (4:26)
But this is a pretty significant uplift in the recommended minimum requirements. It used to only require two gigs of RAM.
**Luke Lafreniere** (4:35)
This could be really good, actually, because if they were being held back by those old requirements, like, my god, this is actually a very substantial jump.
**Linus Sebastian** (4:45)
I'm going to be honest with you, I don't...
**Luke Lafreniere** (4:49)
You don't think they were using it as a guideline?
**Linus Sebastian** (4:51)
I don't think they were, and I don't think that this is going to make that much of a difference. I suspect the increase in system requirements is more to run your Discord in the background. We actually did a video recently comparing, oh man, there's going to be a bit of a spoiler here. Okay, so go like this, okay, here's your spoiler avoidance instructions. Go like this, and go like this, and go like this.
