Two Idiotic Things We Need To Stop Doing If We Want A Better Business (And Life)

6 Figure Creative

March 17, 2020

This isn’t a b******t clickbait episode title. We ALL do these two things, and they’re potentially wrecking our businesses, personal lives, and relationships. This first step to recovery is understanding what these two things are. The second step is admitting that you do these things.

You're listening to the 6 Figure Home Studio Podcast, the number one resource for running a profitable home recording studio. Now your hosts, Brian Hood and Chris Graham.

Brian Hood (0:19)

Welcome back to another episode of the 6 Figure Home Studio Podcast. I am your host, Brian Hood, and I'm here with my bald, beautiful co-host, without the purple shirt today, because he's being a douche, Christopher J.

Graham. He had to change his shirt out because he had pit stains. How are you doing today, buddy?

Christopher J. Graham (0:36)

So much pit stains. Yeah. It's like hot in my office today.

It's warm in Ohio, thank God, and our air conditioning system was not on yet. And I was like, we're getting ready for episode. And I was like, why am I so warm? Am I nervous?

Brian Hood (0:51)

I know you get nervous when you talk to me, so it's okay, man.

Christopher J. Graham (0:53)

It's because I like you so much.

Brian Hood (0:55)

Oh, buddy.

I'm in an unreasonably good mood today. You want to know why?

Christopher J. Graham (0:59)

Why is that?

Brian Hood (1:00)

Because we hit our 14-day quarantine period for coronavirus after coming back from Southeast Asia.

Christopher J. Graham (1:04)

How many people are staying with you or working at your house right now?

Brian Hood (1:07)

Nobody right now.

Christopher J. Graham (1:08)

Okay.

Brian Hood (1:09)

I'm here alone right now. My wife's out with her friend working.

So we hit the 14-day period, so now I can actually go see my niece. And we have a wedding we're heading to this weekend.

Christopher J. Graham (1:17)

That's amazing.

Brian Hood (1:18)

We are coronavirus-free. However, we booked this trip months ago, me and Trevor and Travis from Soundstripe are all supposed to go to Japan at the end of this month. We leave March 31st.

Christopher J. Graham (1:28)

Veto. Veto.

Brian Hood (1:31)

We booked our hotel last night. Cheap as shit right now, by the way. You can get some cheap hotels.

If the government will let us go, we are gonna go. That's basically our plan right now.

Christopher J. Graham (1:40)

Oh, I don't like that.

Brian Hood (1:41)

I'm gonna go brave the coronavirus stuff again.

Christopher J. Graham (1:44)

Just make sure I have all the logins for our podcast stuff.

Brian Hood (1:47)

Yeah.

Christopher J. Graham (1:47)

Like anything I could need to keep this ship afloat if you die, all right?

Brian Hood (1:51)

Or if I'm just under the weather for a minute. I read some interesting stuff where people were just saying like, there's like, you cannot get away from it. We're talking about this damn podcast. That's how like, over covered this topic is in relation to the news.

Christopher J. Graham (2:03)

Yeah, it's everywhere. It went viral.

Brian Hood (2:05)

You took the opportunity and you grasped it.

So I was reading in a newsletter that's not typically about coronavirus, and it was his take on it. And it was interesting how this person believed that it's not a matter of if you get it, it's a matter of when you get it. And this actually goes along with today's topic, which we'll get into in a second. But if you look at the exponential growth that this has right now outside of China, by summertime, we'll have millions of infections around the world, like millions. We're at 100,000, something like that right now.

Christopher J. Graham (2:33)

Well, let me say this. One, I don't like this conversation because I'm a germaphobe.

Brian Hood (2:38)

I know. And I love it because I'm not a germaphobe, and it's so easy to gross you out related to this stuff, too.

Christopher J. Graham (2:43)

This is true. But two, I love this conversation because I'm a germaphobe, because I'm watching the news, and it's instructions on how to wash your hands, and telling people not to touch doorknobs, and I'm like, I'm not alone anymore.

I'm normal.

Brian Hood (2:58)

The rest of the world is temporarily a germaphobe right now, including myself.

I'm doing that sort of stuff. I'm opening doors with the palm of my hand or the back of my hand.

Christopher J. Graham (3:06)

No, Brian, you got to extend your sleeve. Pull it out when no one's looking.

Brian Hood (3:10)

I don't have long sleeves on all the time. And also, I'm hitting buttons with my knuckle or touch screens with my knuckle.

Christopher J. Graham (3:16)

Yes, yes, yes. We're going to save a couple of lives here for coronavirus. When you go to a restaurant.
