Hello, and welcome to the 6 Figure Creative Podcast. I'm your host, Brian Hood. If this is your first time listening to the show, first of all, welcome, glad to have you. And this is a podcast for creative freelancers who want to earn more money from their creative skills without selling their souls, and you're good at what you do. If that sounds like you, you're in the right place. If you're returning, listen to the show, awesome. Glad to have you back. Thanks for coming again and again and again. This is a weird episode today. I have a great topic planned. This might be a two-parter. It's a very long outline. It's one of the longest outlines I've had in a while, but I thought this was a really important episode. However, my entire day has been thrown off dramatically through a dramatic turn of events. Kind of sort of, not really that dramatic. But I had my Facebook account breached, which sounds like a super boomer thing to do. I don't know if it's my boomer listeners out there.
But generally speaking, I consider myself a person who values security. I have every password on every website. It's like a different randomly generated password from one password, which is the password manager we use. I have two-factor authentication on all things, including Facebook. It was a unique password for Facebook. The email address associated with that account was a unique password generated. It was a 20-character encrypted, whatever. It was like all the crap we can possibly do with two-factor authentication, everything you can do to keep from allowing your Facebook account to fall into bad hands. The reason this matters for me is, we're running tons of ads for this business specifically, and other businesses that I have other ad accounts for.
And if they get ahold of that, they can do a lot of damage. They can show ads and things that should never be shown to people. They can promote things that are against Facebook's terms. It could completely ruin my ability to ever advertise again. So I woke up this morning at 6 a.m. and saw that my email address had been removed from my account. My phone number had to remove from my account, and my password had been changed. I just jump up out of bed, run downstairs with my laptop, and try to figure out what the heck's going on. Just to get my account back first, I had to submit a photo of myself holding a piece of paper with a specific number on it to show my face with this specific code to even get access back to my account, which I finally got back after an hour of going through all this.
And I got access to my account, but the problem was their email address was still on the account, along with my new one that I created another account just for Facebook because I'll show you why in a second. This is interesting for some of you. If not, you can skip ahead two minutes, three minutes or so, and we'll get to the meat of this episode. But now his account, this guy in Hong Kong, and my account, me and Nashville, are both on this account, and we're both trying to reset the passwords. I'm trying to reset it from what he did. And so I'm generating this code to my email address, but anytime I generate a code, a unique code to change the password on the account, it's also being sent to him. So he's trying to change the account. And so for like 10 minutes, we're battling back and forth, generating random codes, and we're both trying to put this code in fast enough to get to our account settings and remove the other person's email address from the account. Eventually, the account is locked again, and through ChatGBT, thank you very much, I found that there's a page you can go to facebook.com/hacked, and you can go through this process where you can remove email addresses from your account. So I went through that process. I removed his email account from my account, and then I went through and figured out damage control and got my account back, changed the password again. I still don't understand how he bypassed the two factor authentication. For those who know what that is, you know that's hard to bypass. For some reason, it wasn't being generated because we use one password as our authenticator app.
