Nigel (0:02)

Okay, ready, three, two, one.

Hammer (0:05)

What kind of a booze cruise is this?

Nigel (0:07)

Where's the hoot?

Hammer (0:11)

You got that? They're not booing, they're saying.

I'm on it, man. Tuesday, cruise day, on the Hammer and Nigel Show.

Nigel (0:21)

Oh my gosh.

Johnette Cruz (0:24)

Let's do it! My name is Nigel.

Hammer (0:26)

That was amazing! Jason Hammer right over there was a very special studio guest.

Nigel (0:32)

Tuesday Cruise Day with Johnette Cruz.

Johnette Cruz (0:36)

Johnette!

Nigel (0:37)

How are you, dear?

Johnette Cruz (0:39)

I'm doing great, doing awesome today.

Nigel (0:41)

Johnette is part of the new 9 to Noon program here at 93WIBC, Baker & Cruz. You are two days in.

Johnette Cruz (0:50)

Two days in.

Nigel (0:51)

Two successful days.

I've listened to both days and I think you and Brian have a really good chemistry. It looks like the feedback has been pretty positive.

Hammer (1:01)

You both are pros too.

Johnette Cruz (1:03)

Oh, well, thanks.

Hammer (1:04)

Both of you.

Nigel (1:05)

How do you think it's been?

Johnette Cruz (1:06)

I think it's honestly, I think it's been fantastic. Like we were both pretty nervous Monday, like the first segment in and as soon as we got that first one in, I was like, okay, this is great. This is going to be amazing. Yeah, and so after that, it all went away.

Hammer (1:17)

The first show flew by, didn't it?

Johnette Cruz (1:18)

It really did. Yeah, it goes by so fast.

Nigel (1:21)

And you and Brian Baker, you guys haven't been in studio together before, really. So now you're handed the keys to this program. You're sitting side by side. How's your chemistry with Brian?

Johnette Cruz (1:33)

It's actually been really good. Like we've been able to kind of bounce off of each other when it comes to topics and conversations. We've been able to also just work really well together. And as you mentioned, we haven't been in a room together this entire time. So you figure that's going to kind of take some time to get to know somebody and kind of know when you can chime in on things and what their personality is and the chemistry and all that. But so far, I think it's gone well.

Nigel (1:59)

We always get an uptick in YouTube camera views when Johnette's in studio. I wonder why that is. Weird.

Hammer (2:07)

Scratching my head on that one.

Nigel (2:09)

So as we've talked about, we kind of went into this when we announced you as the host on this program. Like a month or so ago, what's your message to the folks that were maybe wanting somebody else to get the show? Maybe they like the previous host or something like that. What would be your message to those people?

Johnette Cruz (2:27)

I mean, I would just say, you know, give us a shot. Try us out. See how you like the content. See how you like Brian and I in terms of, you know, the types of stories that we're putting together and that we're showing the community in terms of local and national news. You don't know until you try, until you listen. So give it a shot. See how you feel and go from there. I think we're going to be getting a lot of news that are just like writing us off.

Hammer (2:48)

What's a mid morning show? Because I've never done 9 to noon before. I think I maybe filled in a couple of times the previous show. But like, what's your schedule? Like personally?

When does it start? When does it end?

Johnette Cruz (3:05)

Well, I know I get up every day about 520 in the morning, 530 And so I try to, I'm trying to get here between like 7 and 730 so that I have enough time to make any last-minute adjustments because typically we're making changes up until probably 8 or 9 o'clock the night before. And so then we'll come in, see if anything like breaks overnight, do some readjusting. And so then we're ready to go. And then I'm typically here throughout the entire rest of the day. So I'm still here after the show is done because I'm still doing my investigative pieces as well.

Nigel (3:32)

Are you still with the newsroom?

Johnette Cruz (3:33)

Yeah, kind of. I'm kind of in both. It's kind of nice because I think what's really great about that is because I'm in the newsroom still and I still have my desk in there, I'm still able to talk to everybody and I still get all the emails. I still get a really good pulse on what's happening in the community on top of everything else that's happening nationally. So I can chime in if there's breaking news in the middle of the morning show and we can go ahead and add that information for everybody.
