Welcome on in to the Sports Fix podcast. It is a Tuesday, the 27th of October, 2026
My name is Darcy Waldegrave. If you did have a long weekend, I hope you enjoyed it. Now we're right back into the week again. Coming up on today's podcast, we're talking to a brand new-ish, I say brand new-ish, he's back in the squad, All Black by the name of Jamie Hannah. He's managed to displace Sam Darry. We'll talk to him about the Northern Tour, the Nations Championship Northern Series, to be more precise. I've got a few words around the nature of the heat at the One New Zealand Stadium. Overpowering, overbearing, overlooked. We'll talk more about that when I say we, I mean I will, and then we'll be joined in the chamber by Nathan Limm. He's missed the league, he's missed the netball, he's missed the sport for the New Zealand Herald. We'll discuss what's happening with the Silver Ferns and that chance to get to number one in the world. It'll be rude of us not to touch on the cricket tonight. That's what we're doing.
Let's do it.

In other news.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (1:18)
In sporty saliva spluttering today, whatever, All Blacks coach Dave Rennie has released the names of the men charged with ending 2026 on a high in Europe. He also released Patrick Tuipulatu and Sam Garry, but he readmitted Lester Fainganuku to the fold. The loose forward comes centre, come winger.
Versatile, right Dave?
SPEAKER_3 (1:41)
It gives you a massive flexibility.
Nathan Limm (1:43)
You can name a 5-3 bench, but it's generally a 6-2. He can definitely make impact in all of those spots.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (1:51)
Silver Ferns at mid-quarter, Matty Gordon had a crack at the Australian crowd in the third Constellation Cup match in Sydney over the weekend. No steps backward, no prisons, no apologies and no surprises. Game four and the chance to go number one in the netball world is tomorrow night in Melbourne.
SPEAKER_3 (2:11)
I was just a bit over the crowd booing, blatant contact calls, so that was just my reaction, a bit of an eye roll and a bit of a, you know. I back it, I'm all for loud and passionate crowds, but just the booing, yeah, got me.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (2:24)
And Harry Kane has been awarded the Ballon d'Or for being the Globe's best male footballer for their 25-26 international and club season. Plainly, he was chuffed and accurate in his summation. Don't you hate it when a player says they're speechless and then they say something? Like, you can't say that in a speech because, you know, you're speaking. It's not speechless, right?
Harry Kane (2:48)
I'm almost speechless. Lucky I have this list here. First of all, thank you again to France Football, to the Ballon d'Or for putting on this amazing event. Being here in London as well has made it extra special.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (2:59)
Done, dusted, rubber stamped, whatever you want to call it, that's sport today. G'day Jamie, welcome to the Sports Fix podcast. How are you?
Jamie Hannah (3:15)
Yeah, good, thanks.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (3:17)
Thanks for joining us. Real pleasure. I expect you'd be exhausted after what's happened to you over the last couple of days.
Jamie Hannah (3:23)
Yeah, it's been a busy couple of days. Yeah, obviously had the final, yesterday Arbo, down in Christchurch, and then just up to Auckland today. So, yeah, it's been flat out.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (3:34)
I won't say which you enjoyed the most because I expect I know, but you've had one cap as an All Black and now you've been dragged back again to two, but yesterday, come on mate, how good.
Jamie Hannah (3:47)
Yeah, no, it was pretty special.
Yeah, to have a sellout crowd at home in the afternoon, on a Monday, public holiday. Yeah, it's pretty cool to get the job done and send a couple of boys off for playing the last game in the jersey. So, yeah, send them off well.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (4:05)
Apparently, it's a bit on the warm side.
Did you feel that much out there? Were they saying 30-something degrees there under the sun and under the glass?
Jamie Hannah (4:14)
Yeah, yeah, I think the chat was like 34, so she was definitely hot out there. But yeah, nah, not much she can do about it really, I suppose. So just put the head down, get on with it.
D'Arcy Waldegrave (4:26)
You're a big frame. How much weight did you lose? They're talking two, three, four kilograms, which wouldn't be much to you, huge amount for most other people. But did you feel that? Did that actually impinge on you much?
