Hi, Bob.
Bob Murphy (0:09)
I'm sorry, do I know you?
Adam Haman (0:11)
Bob, Bob, it's me. It's your old crossover podcasting buddy, Adam Haman.
SPEAKER_3 (0:16)
Haman Nature.
Bob Murphy (0:17)
Yes, yes, it's ringing a bell now.
Adam Haman (0:19)
Yeah, yes, I've I've missed you, my friend. And I got to tell you, the fans, the fans have been rioting in the streets, missing these crossover episodes. It's been, I think it'll be two or three weeks now in between.
SPEAKER_3 (0:33)
Yeah.
Adam Haman (0:33)
Since we've graced them with our podcasting pleasures. That didn't work.
Bob Murphy (0:38)
Yeah. We've been playing hard to get.
Adam Haman (0:40)
Yeah, exactly.
So yeah, have you been? What's changed? Have you moved? You got eight new kids, a different job?
Bob Murphy (0:50)
No, no, no, no. But doing all right.
Where have you been? Because it's just explained people what's been going on. You're a jet setter.
Adam Haman (0:58)
Yeah, I didn't know this about myself, but apparently I'm a globe trotting jet setter.
I went and spent four days in New York City visiting the in-laws. That was lovely. Got to see Gene Epstein, have dinner with him.
Bob Murphy (1:11)
Is he your in-law or is he is not?
Adam Haman (1:14)
OK, they're all they're all interrelated Jews there in New York, Bob. So I thought it might he might be. But I asked some follow up questions and it turns out no. OK, something about the difference between the Coens and the Levi's. I don't know. I got I got confused.
And then from there, I went to Bodrum, Turkey, which is weird.
Bob Murphy (1:37)
I can't imagine what would have taken you out there.
Adam Haman (1:39)
Well, it's a place I never thought I'd ever be in my life. But it was amazing. It was Hans Hermann Hoppe's Property Freedom Society annual event. And they have it there on the Aegean Sea, right next to Greece at this beautiful resort hotel. And all sorts of fascinating speakers.
It was a bucket list thing for me. I was very, very glad to be able to attend.
Bob Murphy (2:04)
Probably a lot of whiny leftists were at the podium.
Adam Haman (2:07)
Oh boy, oh boy, no.
Not only were they like totally based and smart and very academic, but also very Eurocentric. I mean, it's like difficult for me, you know, on the almost the west coast of the United States. It's like long to get there.
Bob Murphy (2:24)
You say, hey, where's the McDonald's?
Adam Haman (2:26)
Yeah, exactly. I don't believe I ever saw one. And just, but the ease of travel, it just means a whole bunch more academics, libertarians from Europe were there, which I don't know, I just thought it was so great. So many interesting ideas and accents.
I thought I was, I don't know, I was in heaven. It was, it was very good. I'm glad I went, but I'm also glad I'm back.
Bob Murphy (2:49)
Did you think this is what America would be like if we had open borders?
Adam Haman (2:53)
Well, I, no, but I was not traveling to northern or western Europe. I was in Turkey. Okay. And how would you judge that exactly? Oh, open borders, I see. Yeah, I don't know if I got to experience Turkish culture at all, because, you know, it's like, you travel to Las Vegas, it's like you haven't gotten any insight on what it's like to be an Oklahoma or something like that, you know. And this is just a resort town, cruise ships dock there.
It's glorious. And it's steeped in ancient history. I mean, I walked along a wall and stood at the gates that supposedly defended this city from Alexander the Great or something.
Just these ancient, ancient-
Bob Murphy (3:36)
More like Alexander the Mediocre, am I right?
Adam Haman (3:38)
Am I right? That was his father's army. That's all Philip. What did he even do?
And this enormous castle that's built by the Knights Hospitallier, I don't know, the Order of St. John. Just lots of history. One of the seven wonders of the ancient world is there, or the ruins of it, the keystones. It's just amazing.
Bob Murphy (4:05)
Did they take the armor off when they're building the wall? Because you'd think that'd be kind of restrictive.
Adam Haman (4:10)
There was a video taken at the time.
Bob Murphy (4:13)
Black and white.
Adam Haman (4:15)
You know, things they hadn't invented yet. There was a lot of...
I've never been, you know, as an American, our country just isn't old. It's just really, really weird to go to places that are that ancient and think about all the feet that got to trot on those stones before you.
