It's Jim Cramer here. You're listening to the opening bell of CNBC's Squawk on the Street. Don't miss a minute of the action.
Carl Quintanilla (1:06)
Good Tuesday morning. Welcome to Squawk on the Street. I'm Carl Quintanilla with Jim Cramer, David Faber at post night of the New York Stock Exchange. Earning season kicks into a new gear today with Boeing, UPS, GM, American. UNH is knocking the wind out of the Dow on these proposed Medicare rates. The Fed meeting begins 10 year near four and a quarter.
Our road map begins with this flood of earnings this morning. We'll get to GM posting a profit beat and a nice div hike. UPS and some defense names also making moves.
David Faber (1:33)
Health insurance stocks are tumbling in the pre-market this after the Trump Administration proposed keeping Medicare advantage rates pretty much flat next year. And that news a double whammy for UnitedHealth. Also issuing some guidance that investors are not particularly taking with. Boeing's quarterly sales jump almost 60 percent. CEO Kelly Ortberg says there is a lot to be optimistic about. He's going to explain why. We'll have a CNBC exclusive with Mr. Ortberg coming up.
Carl Quintanilla (2:03)
Let's begin with these earnings. GM's up in the pre-market. The automaker posts a bottom line beat. Issues some full year profit guidance above 25 levels. Company also announcing a 20 percent div hike authorizing a six billion dollar buyback. This is what Mary Barra had to say about car sales and affordability with Phil LeBeau earlier on Squawk.
SPEAKER_3 (2:22)
Last year we sold over 700,000 vehicles in this country with a starting price of under $30,000. When you look at the Chevrolet Equinox, the Chevrolet Trax, the Buick and Vista and several other models. So I think we have affordable vehicles, we have premium vehicles and we have true luxury vehicles and super trucks. We have a wide portfolio so we can meet the customer where we are and we truly have vehicles that don't break the household budget.
Carl Quintanilla (2:48)
Jim, auto is very much in focus today between the EU, India, trade deal and the threats about South Korean tariffs.
Jim Cramer (2:55)
South Korea has always been the free rider here. We defend them, they're a bulwark against at one point communism and they've had a free run of the joint. Mary Barrow has been able to negotiate that even without it. I will tell you that I was very worried about tariffs. They came in lower in tariffs. They're making more money per car. They are a beneficiary, David. We're starting to see beneficiaries. Nucor last night, I know people felt the Nucor number was light. It wasn't. The stock had run up a lot. But what we're seeing is we're starting to see the companies that stuck with the country make a lot of money because they're being protected.
David Faber (3:35)
GM stock up 50% for it up.
Jim Cramer (3:37)
She's monster good. I'm just saying that she has made the most of it.
David Faber (3:42)
She has.
Jim Cramer (3:43)
But she's got the best cars.
David Faber (3:43)
Even with the charges, obviously, for the changes in terms of product line and dampening significantly the production of EV.
Jim Cramer (3:50)
Do you think she gets the credit of what she's done?
David Faber (3:52)
I think so. Yeah, I do. Yeah, why? You don't?
Sara Eisen (3:54)
I don't think so.
Jim Cramer (3:55)
I think the dividend isn't just getting it.
Carl Quintanilla (3:57)
Charlox, okay.
David Faber (3:58)
Yeah.
Jim Cramer (3:59)
Well, I don't hear people ever mention her as being, and you know what? We have stars in this country. That's what I'm saying. She's a star. And look, I happen to love Farley. I think he's a great guy. Ford had a lot of issues, but Mary Barrow wasn't dealt a good hand. She was not dealt a good hand.
