This is a True Crime Roundup from The On Deadline Podcast. We explore crime stories reported on by Audacy's radio newsrooms across the country. I'm your host, Lauren Barry.

This week, we're exploring the continued reverberations of the Lindsay Clancy case and a shocking shooting in Minneapolis. Clancy's case ended in a mistrial. Will the Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three young children face another trial? Will the defense and prosecution come to an agreement that allows her to stay in a mental institution? We'll hear experts weigh in on those questions and how the Clancy trial might impact other cases going forward.

Then we'll hear about one of the conspiracy theories that's bloomed since the trial started. From Minnesota, a journalist and lawmaker join Audacy to discuss the shooting that claimed two lives and injured two police officers earlier this month. The man identified as the culprit had a history of threats but he still had a gun. Is there anything that could have been done before tragedy struck? But first we're going to look at recent crime updates from opposite sides of the country. Here are two dispatches out of Audacy station, KYW Newsradio and Philadelphia, including a murder-for-hire case.

Back here a federal indictment charges the former girlfriend of a Philadelphia cop with allegedly scheming to hire a hitman to kill the officer and his teenage daughter last year. Here's KYW News' John McDevitt.

John McDevitt (1:48)

The US. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia says if convicted, 28-year-old Jaclyn Diorio of Runnymede could get up to 20 years in prison. Officials in Camden County said back in the spring of last year, Diorio negotiated a price of $12,000 to have her ex-boyfriend, a Philadelphia cop, and his daughter killed. Investigators say she was actually talking with an informant over the phone who was posing as the hitman. Officials say when she went to meet the man in person in Gloucester Township, that's when she was arrested after giving the man $500 for a down payment.

Hollenbeck Division officers came to a home in the 600 block of Gillette Street to deal with the situation involving an emotionally distraught man who reportedly lived there and was armed with what initially was called a long pipe. LAPD Captain Mike Bland offered more details.

Mike Bland (4:19)

What the officers saw when they arrived was this roughly 10 foot long pole and at the edge of that pole is a serrated blade roughly 10 to 12 inches in length and he advanced towards them with that blade and that pole in his hand. Something that's similar to what you would see in landscaping to cut branches from a tree.
