TRUE CRIME ROUNDUP: Looking at the Lindsay Clancy case, Nick Reiner updates, Derek Chauvin and more

This week, we're looking in to the latest developments in the case of Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, beloved Hollywood power couple Rob and Michele Reiner. He's been trying to access the trust fund his parents set up for him to pay for his defense. But is that a violation of the Slayer Rule? We'll look in to that.
Another case we're diving in to in this episode also involves family murder. It's the Lindsay Clancy case out of Massachusetts. Clancy is a mother accused of killing her three children. And the details of her case have opened up a discussion around postpartum depression and the more rare postpartum psychosis condition. We'll also touch on the investigation into the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, though crime is not currently suspected in that case.
Before we get into those cases, we'll cover some crime updates from across the US, including Derek Chauvin's attempt to get his 2020 murder conviction for the death of George Floyd overturned. Then we'll hear discussions about parents getting punished when their children commit crimes, and about school shooter drills.
First, we have the case of an 18-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend, a recent high school graduate who was headed to California, where she was set to play soccer for Penn West. Here's the Big K Morning Show out of Audacy Station KDKA in Pittsburgh with the story.

State police say a college soccer player was killed Wednesday night by her boyfriend. His mother is accused of trying to help him cover it up. 18-year-old Royce Moser is charged with homicide in the death of 18-year-old Caroline Hintz, a recent graduate of Peters High School and a student at Penn West, California.
Moser's mother Rachel is charged with hindering apprehension, evidence tampering and more. The DA says Royce and Caroline were talking about the future of their relationship when he stabbed her in the chest.
Moser allegedly put Caroline's body in her vehicle and drove to his mother's house where attempts were made to clean up the blood. Investigators say Moser, followed by his mother, drove to California Borough and left his dead girlfriend and her SUV in a parking lot. Trooper Rocco Gagliardi.

We're talking about an 18-year-old girl that was ready to start life and now she can no longer get to pursue her dreams, which is really unfortunate.

Court paperwork says Moser told investigators a demon told him to stab his girlfriend.

Audacy Station, KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia reported on sentencing for men convicted of killing a rapper in 2020 Like in our last dispatch, the victim was just 18 years old when he died.

Two men convicted in the murder of an 18-year-old rapper six years ago in West Philly learned their fate today. Donovan Williams will spend the rest of his life in prison for his role in the July 2020 shooting death of Amir Johnson Day.
Bajdini was sentenced to 13 and a half to 42 years. District Attorney Larry Krasner says this was a long time coming.

Here we are six years after the homicide and finally, there is a verdict and finally, there is a consequence.

The shooting happened on July 5th of 2020 at a home on 61st Street near Master Street. The DA says it took more than 15 months to track down one of the defendants and three years to find the other. Day's mother says she's grateful for the persistence of investigators.

Krasner's office still seeking information on this shooting, though, saying one or two more people may have been involved.

One of the most reported on and discussed crime cases of 2020 was the killing of black man George Floyd at the hands of white police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis. Chauvin was convicted in connection with the death and is currently serving concurrent state and federal sentences that are both more than 20 years.
Now, he's seeking to have his state murder conviction overturned. Audacy's WCCO News and Talk in the Twin Cities has the details.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is again asking for his state murder conviction in the 2020 killing of George Floyd to be overturned.

Chauvin and his legal team argue the assignment of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to prosecute the case was illegitimate. They also argue that Chauvin's due process rights were violated because the Tampa County District Court failed to convene a grand jury before any charging decision.
