Today is NVIDIA Earnings Day, but here on Dumb Money, there's something even bigger to talk about. And no, it's not Cracker Barrel switching back to their old logo and the stock being up 18% from its low. It's not Apple confirming the date that they're going to unveil the all-new thinnest iPhone design ever, kicking off three years of radical new iPhone designs. Nope, we don't have time for that today. By the way, Robinhood has their Hood Summit the same day as the iPhone event, but that's not what we're talking about either. There's no time to get into the Fed prepping to drop interest rates or last night's SpaceX launch of the Starship that's going to get humans to Mars.
There was a simpler time when stories like that might have been noticed, but not even the official start of PSL season. Oh no, yesterday's pumpkin spice was completely eclipsed by the biggest news, the news that broke the internet, that crashed Instagram. It's been called an international freakout. Of course, as depicted in a meme, we all know that the whole US economy is being held up by Taylor Swift, and yesterday's news that America's favorite gym teacher and the librarian are getting engaged. They are engaged. And today on Dumb Money, we're going to talk about which stocks are going to be the biggest winners as we trade the Taylor Swift engagement.
Hey there, Dave here, along with Chris and Jordan. We are Dumb Money. Welcome to Dumb Money Live. A quick reminder to smash the like button. It is the absolute best way to send Travis and Taylor your best wishes in this exciting time. Chris, Jordan, let's first get the obvious widely reported trade out of the way, because it was on all the news outlets yesterday. Signet Jewelers up 3% because the media pretends that they understand how Dumb Money invests and that somehow an 8 to 10 carat old mine cushion cut is something that you're going to find at Signet Jewelers, which by the way, that stock was already up 20% in the month leading up to this. So they basically just said, Jewelry stock up, which one should we write articles about? And that's what they came up with. And there's also the striped silk Ralph Lauren dress that she was wearing in her engagement photos. That sold out instantly. Those are the easy ones, but we need to dig deeper. We're dumb money, right? So where are we going to start this conversation today?

**Jordan** (2:20)
People actually buy engagement rings from Signet Jewelers. Is that a thing?

**Dave** (2:24)
I don't know. I would assume that they would get it from Jared.

**Jordan** (2:29)
I thought I'd already know a guy. Like, I know a guy, and that's how I got...

**Dave** (2:34)
Basically, all of those big box chain jewelry stores are the same company, though, right?

**Chris** (2:41)
They're all the same company, basically. Jared, K, they're all part of it. You know this, Jordan, because you were invested so heavily in that company for, like, two years.

**Jordan** (2:52)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, and that's not the question that I'm asking. I know that they own a bunch of different chains of mall retailers. I just didn't know that people actually bought engagement rings from these mall retailers. I was in it because everybody was blowing their money on watches during the pandemic. So that was my thesis around Signet jewelers.

**Chris** (3:12)
I feel like, Jordan, you are so like one percenter right now in saying that. Absolutely, people are buy their stuff from those jewelers. Most of America still buy stuff from actual mall jewelry stores. They don't all have a diamond guy. I mean, I still think people all most of the world is not the one percenters that watch our show.

**Jordan** (3:34)
It's insane.

**Chris** (3:36)
So the bottom line is this. I like let's just talk about this for a second.
If you believe that Taylor Swift, that her engagement is going to result in more people getting engaged in the next 90 days, then Signet Jewelers would be an excellent trade, I think, excellent trade. If you believe she can move the needle like 5% or more, there's gonna be a pop of 5 to 10% more engagements than normal in the next 90 days, then absolutely. Am I buying Signet Jewelers right now? Absolutely not, because I looked at the data, there was nothing there that was interesting to me, but am I now watching the data for Signet Jewelers every week for the next 12 weeks? Absolutely I am, just to see how big of an impact Taylor Swift actually has on women pushing their husband to get engaged now because they want to be in the Taylor Cycle.
