An award-winning photographic journalist who spent the first four months after October 7th documenting the war from inside the Gaza Strip has made one of the most stunning admissions regarding the supposed genocide in Gaza.
For over two years, the world condemned Israel for not allowing journalists into Gaza. But as someone who personally went into Gaza a year after October 7th and right in the middle of the war, let me tell you, most journalists did not want to go there. And Israel's claim that they could not protect journalists if they did go there was entirely valid. There was one man, however, who seems to have had unfettered access to the Gaza Strip after October 7th, Motaz Azeiza, an Arab photographer who unquestionably sided with Hamas and still seems to side with Hamas even today, has been the eyes of the world into Gaza for over two years. He has millions of social media followers. He was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. He was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and he's been featured by media networks all over the world and heard by tens of thousands of people in live audiences. According to the Jerusalem Post, he's one of the most recognizable figures in the October 7th war. And more recently, Motaz went on tour in America and around the world making speeches and appearing in the media. He also appeared with Miss Rachel, who's a controversial figure for bias, sympathy and propaganda in support of Hamas, where she called Motaz her friend.
First, before we get into his stunning revelations on a recent Arabic podcast, some facts about Motaz Aziza. He spent the first four months after October 7th documenting what happened inside the Gaza Strip. And then he fled from Gaza and today lives in Qatar due to his claims of being suppressed by Hamas. And he was in fear for his safety and well-being. And he spent the last couple of years making lots of appearances all over the world, even speaking in front of live audiences, in front of thousands, if not tens of thousands of people, talking about what he saw and heard during his time in Gaza. A few weeks ago, however, he appeared on an Arabic podcast where he disclosed some information that he's apparently been holding back for two years. So the Jerusalem Post ran an article a couple of weeks ago, where they quoted Motaz Aziza from a three-and-a-half-hour podcast he appeared on in Arabic. In the podcast, Aziza is quoted as saying, quote, I saw the vehicle of the Al Qasim brigades and there were Israeli captives there. People got out, watched, beat them, hit them, and I followed them and filmed. But I did not publish those videos. Why not? I understood that Israel would use those videos to identify every person who was there and eliminate them. I did not want to be responsible, even indirectly, for the deaths of those people.
So in his own admission, Motaaz is saying that he deliberately held back evidence that showed Hamas and Hamas sympathizers abusing and beating Israeli hostages. Now, as I understand it, it's standard journalism around the world to remain as neutral as possible in conflicts, right? And just document, photograph, and present that documentation to the world. But here, he's holding back information. And in this particular situation, it appears like he saw Israeli hostages.
And he saw hostages that were in Gaza, maybe even knew where some of them were, but did not do anything to help them. He went on to say, quote, photographers in Gaza have become accustomed to lowering their cameras the moment someone says something bad about Hamas. Because anyone who dares to show reality is persecuted relentlessly. Now, whether or not Aziza was an active supporter of what Hamas did in Gaza or not, it is true that anyone who dared to publish the truth about what was happening in Gaza was in danger of severe persecution and even possibly being killed. The question is, now that Motaz has left Gaza and he's no longer in danger, why has he not revealed the truth for the last two years? And the answer to that question appears to be in his own words, quote, I support armed resistance, but one that brings results or at least gives me the feeling that my life is valuable in the eyes of the resistance. Why should a Palestinian be cheap in the eyes of Palestinians themselves? You're making people hate the resistance with your own hands.
So he appears to be criticizing Hamas, but he also doesn't clarify what armed resistance he supports or not. In other words, he most likely supported armed resistance that happened on October 7th, where 1200 people were shot, stabbed, wounded, captured, tortured and killed nearly three years ago today. Although he did clearly state his support for armed resistance, Montaz is also critical of what Hamas has done to the Palestinian people Gaza. He said, quote, from October 7th until today, show me one Palestinian who lives in Gaza and was protected by Hamas' weapons. No one in Gaza received protection from those weapons. And then he addressed the fact that Hamas didn't lay down its weapons for over two years. He said, quote, I'm not waiting two years to judge whether Hamas made mistakes. I see the mistake in front of my eyes when people are dying every day. Now they're talking about an agreement in which they will agree to lay down their weapons, talking about a potential deal or negotiation. He said, quote, you could have agreed to that already on October 11th, 2023 Why was it so important that tens of thousands would be killed? On what table did you put the Palestinian issue? You brought us back to the Middle Ages.
