Culture has a lot to say about children. It may smile at one or two, if they are well dressed, well behaved, and they're not interrupting an adult's conversation. However, their tone changes when they begin to see, like little ducklings, five or six or seven kids walk up into Publix or Walmart or wherever. The tone changes a little. Underneath the jokes, you guys though, is a worldview. There is a worldview in the culture that says that children are a threat to our freedom, a threat to our self-fulfillment. They are consumers of resources, and in every way, they are interrupters of our plans.

But hold tight, y'all, because the scripture says the opposite of that. In Psalms 127, it says that children are heritages from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward. Y'all, that is not what the culture says. They think that they are basically a freedom stealer. That's your slave to your children, and that they take things from you and that you can never have your life and all that kind of stuff. But that is what scripture says. Man, they are not burdens to be minimized. They are not lifestyles, interruptions.
They are gifts entrusted to us by the Lord. All five of them, all seven of them, however many you have.

Yes. And then the goal of this episode, too, is not to shame anyone who doesn't have kids, or if you're wrestling with infertility. That is such hard suffering in such a real way. Or women who've walked with loss. The goal of this episode really is to expose the lies that the culture would have us to believe about children so that we can equip ourselves and make sure that we don't absorb those lies more than we realize, because our hope really is that you walk away encouraged from this episode. So today we're talking about the top five lies moms believe about having too many kids.

I mean, what is too many? Who decides that number?

Hey, we're so back and so excited to be with y'all tonight. Christy Young and Heather Copeland with The Gritty Gospel. We love y'all so much and we're so glad you're here. Tonight, we're going to talk about the top five lies moms believe about having too many kids. And this is going to be such a fun episode for us because we hear all these things all the time. You know, you may walk through. I have walked in Walmart before and had someone say, are these all your kids? And then people joke all the time like y'all do know how to prevent.

Y'all do know what causes that.

And then one time, I had someone come by my house. All my kids were playing in the front yard. This is when we lived in a neighborhood. And they said, are you running an at home daycare?

Wow! Now I got that one.

**Christy Young** (2:33)
And I said, no, these are all my children. Thank you.

Wow.

But anyway, just to be in it with you, cause I'm sure y'all have all kinds of funny stories too. Oh, it's crazy. And because our lives are so counter cultural with being blessed with so many kids, but you guys, we want to help y'all to adopt a biblical worldview or be ever encouraged by the biblical worldview so that you don't get discouraged by the culture. Yes.

And the first one, the first lies is that more children means less freedom.
Now, when you think about it, that's forcefully true. Yes, it is. But, I mean, freedom from what? You know, freedom, I mean, maybe from quiet mornings or date nights or what else?

Reading a book when you'd want to.

Yeah, reading a book.

By yourself.

Or leaving when, you know, you want to, but you have, like, a general.

Working out when you want to.

Yeah.
Oh, that may be. But the deeper question is really, y'all, what is freedom? Our culture often defines freedom as the ability to choose without constraint.
No one needing you, doing what you want, starting your mornings how you want to, no interruptions. Y'all, that is not what the world says. I mean, that is not what God says. That is not what He intended us as, freedom. Freedom, biblical freedom, is not the absence of responsibility. Man, that is big right there. It's not the absence of responsibility. It is freedom from slavery in sin, or to sin, so we can belong to God and love others. Wait a minute, I gotta re-say that.
