SPEAKER_4 (4:13)

That was years in the makin.

Tommy Davidson (4:15)

Man, that was years in the makin.

Shawn Stockman (4:17)

Every time Tommy Tommy comes... up to me, he always mentions this song. He was like, he sings, he's like, yo man, Business of the Sunset, Business of the Sunset.

Tommy Davidson (4:24)

It's one of the most beautiful songs, and it's one of those songs that it centers you no matter what you're doing, because you know it comes from someone's heart, deep in there. You know what I mean?

Shawn Stockman (4:38)

Yeah.

Tommy Davidson (4:39)

The love of you guys, and what you guys were able to do, you actually, these little boys, they men, they went Boyz II Men on me, man. They actually brought real singing back to music.

Shawn Stockman (5:01)

Well, we had help.

Tommy Davidson (5:02)

You know what I mean? When you guys came in, quality singing came back in style.

Shawn Stockman (5:10)

Yeah.

Tommy Davidson (5:11)

Who was the group, da-da, boo-doo-ba-da, da-da.

Shawn Stockman (5:14)

Oh, it's a matter of Shai and da-da.

Tommy Davidson (5:17)

Shai.

Shawn Stockman (5:19)

Yeah, it was an influx of singers.

SPEAKER_6 (5:23)

Yeah.

Tommy Davidson (5:24)

That came in and just changed the whole course of things.

Shawn Stockman (5:28)

The stars aligned for the black singing group. It was one of those things here. I'll pass it to them.

SPEAKER_6 (5:37)

And I'll gladly take it, thank you.

Shawn Stockman (5:39)

Yes, there you go.

SPEAKER_6 (5:40)

And I'll put the pinky out.

Shawn Stockman (5:41)

Here we go. Yes. Show your Emily Post.

Tommy Davidson (5:43)

Show the pinky. There's no Hennessy in this.

SPEAKER_6 (5:46)

Yeah, there's no end doll.

Tommy Davidson (5:47)

The pinky goes up. There's a little pinch in here. You know what I mean?

The pinch is the heat.

Shawn Stockman (5:52)

Right.

Tommy Davidson (5:52)

Exactly.

Shawn Stockman (5:54)

But yeah, it was an influx of groups that came out. And we all came out at the same time.

I guess, like I said, the stars aligned with us. It was Jodeci, it was Riff, it was Silk, it was Shai, it was Color Me Bad, it was Hi-Five, it was all of these acts that came out.

Tommy Davidson (6:13)

SWV.

Shawn Stockman (6:14)

SWV, the ladies, can't forget the ladies. What was it?

SPEAKER_6 (6:17)

Brownstone.

Tommy Davidson (6:18)

TLC.

Shawn Stockman (6:19)

So many great groups that were just running in the streets at that time. That made the experience a lot of fun for us.

We all supported each other, we all loved each other. There was no real issues or anything like that. And that's what made it cool. Mint Condition intro, profile. Like there's so many, you know what I mean?

Tommy Davidson (6:43)

Yeah, it just keeps on going, man. It was a whole genre, it was so new genre of music. Let me ask you this real quick. Were you, were y'all post Babyface or pre?

Shawn Stockman (6:54)

It was, I guess you could say it was, it was during.

Tommy Davidson (6:59)

Okay.

Shawn Stockman (6:59)

Like, because.

Tommy Davidson (7:00)

So Whipple Peel came out when you guys were out?

Shawn Stockman (7:02)

Whipple Peel came, no. Whipple Peel came out before us. It was like around 89, 88, if I'm not mistaken, Kenny.

Tommy Davidson (7:07)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right, you're right.

Shawn Stockman (7:08)

But I think it was around 88, 89 And then, right shortly after that, we came out.

Tommy Davidson (7:13)

Okay. Did he do any of y'all songs?

Shawn Stockman (7:15)
