All right, welcome to another episode of 2 Bears, 1 Cave. We're here at Studio BERT. And guess what I've decided to do?
Bert Kreischer (0:13)
Celebrate the success of your hit show that only black people like.
Tom Segura (0:17)
Isn't that crazy? Dude, it is dominating like online socials with like black people only. And they don't know who I am. They're like, you've seen this wild shit of this crazy white dude.
Bert Kreischer (0:30)
But it's so weird. How much don't you love that?
Tom Segura (0:34)
Of course. Isn't that bizarre?
Bert Kreischer (0:37)
You absolutely don't make anything for anyone. And you absolutely did not make this show for black people. But the fact that they are responding such in droves is got to make you so excited.
Tom Segura (0:49)
It's so excited. Because I see my favorite is when they video the TV so you don't see who it is.
And then they're like, hey man, they're like, look at this crazy shit right here. You just hear them and they just laugh or they're like, I don't remember what old boy name, I'll look it up. But y'all got to watch this shit. And they just play a clip from the show. It's the best dude. Yeah, you never, I think that's a perfect representation of what it is actually like to make. Like for people that don't know, when you make a show, a movie, a special, you literally do just throw it out there and you go, whoever responds, responds. Whoever likes it, doesn't like it is it's out of your control to see the outpouring of black support for the show is so unexpected and so fun. I'm so thrilled.
Bert Kreischer (1:37)
When you make, when you write a joke, you have no idea the feedback you're going to get. Like there's no way Shane and Tony could have known the black people will be upset about that George Floyd and lynching joke. There's no way they could have known that they don't know.
Tom Segura (1:49)
You never know. You never know how, what someone's going to say.
Bert Kreischer (1:51)
You believe I'm just saying it's still going on. They're still talking about the roast and you are still, dude, you're congrats on trending in the top 10 for as long as that series has. That is, isn't it crazy that you made it in less time with less preparation with technically a smaller staff and it's doing even better than the first season, which is unheard of.
Tom Segura (2:13)
Well, it's crazy that posts for people that don't know.
We made season one of Bad Thoughts. We shot it in October into the beginning of November. And then we debuted in May. So you have essentially like six months of post. This time we shot all of February into the beginning of March. And we debuted in May.
So we had two months of post. Really, really crazy schedule. And it's a huge credit to like our post team and our directors and producers that made it happen. It definitely wasn't because of me, but it was an insane schedule.
Bert Kreischer (2:52)
I think it made it inspired me to make things like a hundred percent. I mean, obviously we have a brand that we're very proud of that we that I'm wearing full-flaced on my head. But but I started thinking like, dude, you're so good at sketches. You're so good at parody. You're so good in acting as characters like you are the Eddie Murphy of our generation.
Tom Segura (3:14)
Oh, thanks.
Bert Kreischer (3:17)
Hercules, Hercules, Hercules.
Tom Segura (3:19)
I wonder if he'd like me to tell him that story. Hey, Eddie, you know what people say about me? You're like, what's that?
Bert Kreischer (3:28)
Can you quantify, can you quantify the reception? Is it is does it feel good?
Tom Segura (3:34)
Yes, it's felt great. It's felt great. I was like, I really do subscribe to that. It's out of your control idea. And what I've gotten from people is amazing. But always, and you'll relate to this, it's the same when you put out a special.
It's great when you see, you know, people message you and stop you and talk about it. It's been happening to me for the last couple of weeks. But there is nothing like comedians reaching out to you about your comedy you put out. And what I've gotten from people is it, it's like a comedian telling you that they liked what you did and feels like 10,000 people telling you, you know what I mean?
Bert Kreischer (4:13)
Yeah, you actually told me, by the way, yesterday we were talking on the phone about business stuff.
