You're either all in on this model, or maybe you're building with another. You're either speed, or is it security?
Or, you're AWS AI.
AWS AI is how.
Here's your morning TNB Tech Minute for Tuesday, September 2nd. I'm Imani Moise for the Wall Street Journal. OpenAI is limiting the cyber capabilities of a new model that can pull off automated cyber attacks. The ChatGPT maker says that its internal testing determined that the forthcoming model, called Astra, is capable of devising and executing novel cyber attacks against difficult targets with only limited human input. In a blog post, the company said that it has added additional layers of security to reduce the risk of misuse by hackers, or Astra going rogue and hacking targets on its own. The disclosure comes after a swarm of its AI agents hacked the company earlier this summer. News Corp, owner of the Wall Street Journal, has a content licensing partnership with OpenAI.
Apple plans to give its new CEO, John Ternes, an annual salary of $3 million, plus a targeted annual stock award of $55 million for fiscal 2027 According to securities filings, the iPhone maker increased Ternes' salary effective Tuesday, the day he officially took the helm of the company. Apple also disclosed it will pay former CEO Tim Cook an annual salary of $2 million and a targeted equity award of $45 million for the next fiscal year. And the group of musicians led by Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Jason Isbell is suing AI music platform Suno, alleging the company allows its users to generate copycat songs based on artist names without their permission. Suno allows users to enter text prompts to generate songs from descriptors, like genres, types of instruments and moods. The artist lawsuit alleges that Suno's song generator allows users to create music that evokes specific artists by simply typing their names. The lawsuit, which is seeking class action status, focuses on how AI products use and compensate for artists' name, image and likeness, rather than the copyrighted music itself, and sets up a public fight over the unsettled question simmering in the music industry, how artists will assert power over their identities in the messy rise of AI music. And that's your TNB Tech Minute. We'll be back this afternoon with more. You're either all in on this model, or maybe you're building with another. You're either speed, or is it security? Or you're AWS AI. Don't pick a side. Pick them all. AWS AI is how.
