Here's your afternoon TNB Tech Minute for Wednesday, August 19th. I'm Julie Chang for the Wall Street Journal. In a bid to win customers from rival Anthropic, OpenAI is promising not to retain business customer data. The pledge contrasts with Anthropic's policy of keeping customer data for 30 days to ensure the safety of its latest models. OpenAI announced today it's previewing new tech to some customers that help it detect safety risks across multiple interactions with its models. The ChatGPT maker said data would stay on infrastructure controlled by the customer and that it's developing a system to store the information with customer-owned encryption keys so OpenAI staff cannot view prompts, responses or sensitive details. News Corp, owner of the journal, has a content licensing partnership with OpenAI.
We exclusively report that the Federal Trade Commission is warning companies that they must disclose when they use highly-detailed personal data to set a price offer. Companies often use a customer's personal data including browsing history, location, device type, purchase patterns and even how long a cursor hovers over a product in order to determine how much to charge that customer for a product or service. Now, the commission is warning that the practice could violate consumer protection law. In a new enforcement bulletin, the FTC will tell companies that they must disclose when they use personalized pricing including the type of data that was used to generate the offer or potentially face lawsuits if they don't.
And a Chinese maker of Humanoid Robots soared 460% in its trading debut in Shanghai, reaching a $51 billion market valuation. Unitree Robotics is the first Humanoid maker to list in mainland China. The company generated about $250 million in revenue with about $40 million in profit last year. But last month, the US banned most imports of new Humanoid Robot models over national security concerns. And in its offering prospectus, Unitree warned trade restrictions could impact business, given that over 40% of its revenue comes from outside China.
And that's it for your TNB Tech Minutes. We'll have another Quick Tech Update in the morning.

The Chief Human Resources Officer steers and shapes AI-driven workforce transformation. The Chief Information Security Officer ensures data safety and compliance. And it goes on. Cross-functional teamwork helps make way for real transformation.

**Amit Verma** (3:22)
Without that partnership and collaboration, the firm says, you are going to develop point solutions that just automate a part of the process and not the end-to-end process. So it limits or reduces the impact of the automation.
