The Trump Administration and Anthropic have reached an agreement to restore access to the company's fabled AI model after a two-and-a-half week shutdown. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced in a social media post that Anthropic will address vulnerabilities that allowed researchers to bypass safety measures on the model, which is capable of carrying out cyberattacks.
The company said it implemented guardrails to address the government's concerns, but added that making a jail-proof model was, quote, probably impossible.
A Swedish court ordered Alphabets Google to pay Klarna nearly $2 billion in damages after the buy-now-pay-later provider won an antitrust case. Klarna's price comparison unit, Price Runner, sued Google in 2022, alleging Google was giving preferential treatment to its own price comparison service and search results. Google said it didn't agree with the court's decision and was considering legal options. The search giant said it made changes to shopping ads in 2017 that have generated growth for comparison shopping services operating throughout Europe. And European users of Binance are being cut off from the world's largest crypto exchange after the company failed to obtain a license under the bloc's new crypto regulations. Binance applied for a license in Greece that would have allowed it to offer services across the European Union. But people familiar with the matter say a key regulator advised national officials to block the company's application, citing its history of financial crime violations. Binance said its application was compliant and that it would now pursue a license somewhere else in the EU. In the meantime, European customers can now only sell holdings and withdraw funds.
