This episode is sponsored by Anthropic, the makers of Clawd. We're in the middle of a generational shift in how companies are built, says entrepreneur Anton Ossica. That's the vision of his startup, Lovable. To make app development more accessible to all, hear from him at the break.

Here's your morning TNB Tech Minute for Monday, July 20th. I'm Imani Moise for The Wall Street Journal. Alibaba previewed its new AI model yesterday, which it says is second only to Anthropic's Fable 5
The company plans to make the model, called Qun 3.8 Max, available for developers to download and modify soon. It's the latest sign that China is closing the gap with the US for global technological dominance. The preview came days after China's moonshot launched its latest model, surprising many in Silicon Valley with its advanced capabilities. Today, Alibaba's Hong Kong-listed stock rose as much as 5.6% before pairing gains to 5.15% at midday.
In more Alibaba news, the Chinese group's e-commerce platform, Aliexpress, received a $629.2 million fine from European Union regulators. The largest penalty, officials have handed a company so far under the Bloch's Digital Services Act. The European Commission said counterfeit goods and unsafe toys circulated on the platform and stayed online for weeks, and stores selling them were able to remain active on the platform despite being penalized. The regulator said AliExpress hadn't done enough to assess the risks of users being exposed to illegal products on its website or adequately prevent users from being exposed to them. In a statement, the company said it disagreed with the decision and called the fine, quote, disproportionate. AliExpress now has until late October to submit a plan to address regulators' concerns.
And in the US, chip stocks pushed higher this morning as investors seemingly shook off AI bubble anxieties with a busy week of tech earnings ahead. Some of today's biggest early winners are stocks that fell by double digits last week, including Micron Technology, Sandisk and Seagate Technology. Financial report cards from Alphabet, Tesla, IBM and Intel are due in the coming days as second quarter earnings season rolls on. And that's your TNB Tech Minute. We'll be back this afternoon with more.

Anthropix collaboration felt like a true partnership, according to Lovable's Anton Ossica. That helped fuel the startup's greater mission.
**Anton Ossica** (2:25)
I'm super excited about this world where more things are possible. There is fundamentally more human agency that's unlocked when frictions for starting a company and building your product, they start disappearing. I think we're entering an era where there are more societal problems that are getting solved. We're seeing that live with millions of people building on top of our platform.
**SPEAKER_1** (2:49)
How does he think other startups can tap into that energy?
**Anton Ossica** (2:52)
My advice to founders working with Anthropic would be to dig into a partnership and ask for help, spend time with a team because these are humans that actually really care. It starts feeling more like we're building something together than just a customer-vendor relationship.
