Okay, our friends, so today we are reading you a story which is a very silly story and we hope that you will like it as much as we will laugh our way through it because we are in the mood to giggle. Are you ready? Are you ready to giggle? Are you ready to have a good laugh? Good. So today's story is called Things to Teach Your Grown Up. This story was written by Colette Hiller and Corey Gorman. How many of you have grown ups in your life? Raise your hand if you've got a grown up. Your grown ups can be hard to manage, right? Absolutely. So here are some tips on how to handle your grown up. Are you ready? Okay. So today's story is read by Mommy. And...
What was that?
I don't know what that is.
Are you a beatboxer?
Wow. Okay.
Oh, I see. Okay. So he is kind of like a beatboxer.
He makes beats instead of talking. Cool. So things to teach a grown up. Here we go. Noticing things is easy for you. It's something a grown up can find hard to do.
In the picture, we can see some kids and their parents. The kids are seeing things like a butterfly, right? But the parents, they are doing laundry. Did they notice the butterfly?
They're often distracted. And just forget how to see what's around them and be in the now.
And we can see a girl who's cuddling a dog, and the baby sees the dog, too. Everybody's happy except for the mom who's on her cell phone. Uh-oh. And while they're not looking, they don't get to see the squirrel that's scampering under that tree. A crack in the pavement shaped like a mouse. The shiny green door of a very nice house. A hint of a breeze. Soft as a kiss. These are the things a grown up might miss. And why is the grown up missing them? In the pictures, we can see they're out for a walk. The mom is pushing the stroller. But the baby has dropped their stuffy and dropped some laundry or dropped some groceries. And they're just distracted with all this other stuff, right? But you can encourage your grown up to focus. Help them to look, discover and notice. How can you get someone to notice? Well, for example, in the picture, we can see the little girl has a bee on her hand. She's showing the bee to her mom, who has given her her full attention. Well, there you go, right?
Be understanding and always be kind. Remember, a grown up has lots on their mind. In the picture, we can see the girl is looking up at her mom who's making some sort of list, right? And meanwhile, the baby's having a snack and sharing it with her dog.
And there's something else you naturally do, something your grown up can pick up from you. They may find it difficult making believe, but you have a magical wand up your sleeve. In the picture, we can see the little girl has put on her costumes. She's got a costume box that she's pulled costumes out of, and she's even asked her dad to help her, and he's put on a tutu and a crown. He almost looks like he could be a princess, but he's kind of a dad, right? He's got a beard that doesn't quite look right, but he's helping to use his imagination, right? And making believe involves using your imagination. Shazam! And your sofa can fly through the air. Shazam! And you're having a chat with a bear. Remember that magic wand they were using earlier? Yeah, you can use your magic wand to do just about anything, right? It's an imagination wand. Now you're an acrobat on a trapeze. You can imagine whatever you please. The girl is imagining she's in a circus and that she is on the trapeze, flying through the air with the clowns and the audience below her. You can just go and turn into a cat. Your grown up is unlikely to do much of that. Give them support. Help them to try. Remember, a grown up can sometimes be shy. So she's helping her mom turn into a cat, right? By using that magic wand again. And her mom isn't quite sure what to do with being a cat because she's perhaps not the most imaginative mom. But she's getting there, don't you think? Perhaps the most wonderful thing that you do, something your grown up might learn from you, you understand that you don't need a reason, a special occasion or holiday season. You can be suddenly tip, toppy, cappy on the top of the world and hip, hoppy, happy. You don't need a reason, no reason at all. And you know this secret because you are small. That's something that I think a lot of grownups struggle with, is you can choose to be happy whenever you want to. You don't have to say, oh, it's Friday night, I guess I'll be happy. No, no, no, you can be happy whenever.
