The Six Figure Home Studio's Guide To Gear (For Recovering Gear Addicts)

6 Figure Creative

November 13, 2018

Deviating from the norm, Chris and Brian do away with the Gearslut Alert and devote an entire episode to gear. They discuss the obvious interfaces and microphones, but also tools to make productivity while traveling easier, desks, and more.

You're listening to The Six Figure Home Studio Podcast, the number one resource for running a profitable home recording studio.

Brian Hood (0:19)

Welcome back to another episode of The Six Figure Home Studio Podcast.

I am your host, the one and only Brian Hood. Actually, I'm not the one and only Brian Hood. Side note, there's a Brian Hood in Seattle who gets all my emails, because if you email Brian Hood at gmail.com, I don't own that email address, so I'm one of many Brian Hoods, but he gets all my emails and I don't ever see them. Chris, how are you doing today, buddy? He's my co-host, by the way.

Chris Graham (0:41)

I'm good. There are also more than one Chris Graham. And when I was growing up, there was a guy who had the same middle initial as me in the same town, Christopher J. Graham.

Well, Christopher J. Graham held up a gas station and helped murder the guy who owned the gas station.

Brian Hood (0:59)

Oh no, I think you've mentioned this way back on the podcast, I think, or at least, you know, I've talked about this before. That's crazy.

Chris Graham (1:05)

Yeah, so I'm not that Christopher J. Graham from Dublin, Ohio. He's probably still in jail.

Brian Hood (1:10)

My other Brian Hood, there is a murderer Brian Hood that if you search on Google, that's like who I compete with for SEO.

But the Brian Hood, who has the email address in Seattle, he's like a lighting design guy. He's like good career, seems like a solid dude. I think I've exchanged emails with him before.

Chris Graham (1:23)

That's hilarious.

Brian Hood (1:24)

We both have murders with the same name. That's probably a bad sign of some sort. I'm not sure.

Chris Graham (1:28)

Probably.

Brian Hood (1:28)

So how are you doing, my friend?

Chris Graham (1:30)

I'm good. I'm excited for our episode today. I also bought you a present.

Brian Hood (1:34)

No, you shut up. Stop it.

Chris Graham (1:36)

In celebration of your engagement, sir. And it's got some podcast vibes. I'm gonna let you read it to our audience.

Brian Hood (1:47)

So if you're watching on YouTube or Facebook right now, you know exactly what it says. If you're listening and you can't see it, it's a little like, it's one of those like hand knitted cloth things with a funny phrase on it.

Chris Graham (1:59)

Needle point.

Brian Hood (2:00)

Needle point. And it says shut your whore mouth. Shut your whore mouth. You did not get that from me.

Chris Graham (2:07)

It looks like something your grandma would have made.

Brian Hood (2:09)

Yeah, it's amazing.

Chris Graham (2:11)

It says something your cousin Billy would say.

Brian Hood (2:13)

Right. Or I would say.

Chris Graham (2:14)

Or you.

Brian Hood (2:15)

Because I say that all the time.

Chris Graham (2:16)

Yeah, you said it to me in the podcast and I was like.

Brian Hood (2:18)

Multiple times.

Chris Graham (2:19)

Yeah, there you go. So in celebration of my love for you and of your impending nuptials.

Brian Hood (2:25)

Oh, I appreciate it.

Chris Graham (2:26)

I will be sending this to you soon.

Brian Hood (2:27)

Yeah, so those of you who somehow missed it, I'm engaged now. I got engaged a couple weeks ago. I am looking to, I think our date's sometime in early springtime, sometime in March maybe or something. So I'm excited. So thanks for that. I look forward to actually getting that into my possession and then putting it somewhere that it makes sense in my house. Maybe right by my bed. I don't know.

Chris Graham (2:44)

Yeah, just depends on where you need that encouragement.

Brian Hood (2:46)

Or right at the entrance of my home so everyone knows my attitude towards them as they walk into my house.

All right, so let's get into the actual episode today. Today, we're having a little bit of a different episode than normal, and that's because people that listen to this podcast since the beginning, you all know what this is. People who kind of just joined in whenever, you probably don't know what the hell this is. Occasionally, you may have heard like a little siren go off.

And if you're smart, you kind of realize that usually anytime Chris mentions a specific piece of gear, and that's because in this podcast, we've decided early on, we did not want this to be a podcast about gear. And so we created something called the Gearslut Alert. And that little siren goes off anytime a specific piece of gear is mentioned. And that's because the Six Figure Home Studio as a brand, we did not believe that gear is the answer to a successful business. That is not our platform. That's not our belief. That's not how we live in our own businesses.
