The Secret Weapon For 6 Figure Freelancers: Email Marketing

6 Figure Creative

October 18, 2022

Love it or hate it, email marketing is the closest thing there has ever been to a "magic pill" for anyone looking for stability in their month-to-month income. The sucky thing is...most of us "fall victim" to email marketing ALL THE TIME.

This is the 6 Figure Creative Podcast, Episode 222

Welcome to the 6 Figure Creative Podcast, where our mission is to help you turn your creative passions into a stable, reliable income. If you're in audio, video, design, photography, or really any other creative field, and you just want to learn from other successful creatives, you're in the right place.

Welcome to the 6 Figure Creative Podcast. I am your host, Brian Hood. And if this is your first time listening to the show, this is the show all about answering two of the biggest questions that I think freelancers face when they're in their business. Question one is, how do I get enough clients to be full-time? The second question is, once I have a bunch of clients, how do I get my time back so I'm not stuck working in my business, doing a bunch of tedious crap I don't want to do? How do I be more efficient? Today's episode is answering that first question. It's all about what can I do to get more clients? I want to introduce my wonderful co-host for this episode, Mark Eckert. How are you doing today, my dude?

Mark Eckert (0:53)

I'm doing fine, my cat has been throwing up all day.

Yeah, I'm a dog guy. I didn't even want a cat.

Brian Hood (1:03)

Then you got married, does she have a cat?

Mark Eckert (1:04)

Exactly, yes, she wanted a cat, we got a cat. I don't like this cat, it knows I don't like it. I say to it every single day, I don't like you. And now throwing up a lot, and I have to clean it up. So these are new responsibilities that I just love having.

Brian Hood (1:16)

That's when an inside cat becomes an outside cat and stays an outside cat and never comes back in again.

Mark Eckert (1:21)

I always say, do you want to go outside? Like, it's great out there, come on, you know, doesn't go. So, you know, I'm stuck, it's fine.

Brian Hood (1:28)

How is marriage life, man? I mean, you're about a year into it now?

Mark Eckert (1:31)

Oh, it's awesome. She's the shit. We're going up to Maine next month for like 10 days or something.

Brian Hood (1:36)

For what?

Mark Eckert (1:37)

I've never been to Maine. She hasn't either. And we just want a bunch of lobster, and we have a bunch of friends in Portland.

It seems cool. So we're just gonna eat a lot of seafood and just chill and do nothing and just travel around.

Brian Hood (1:47)

I think me and my wife, we looked at flights up to Portland, Maine, and then we realized that hotels are so ridiculously expensive.

Mark Eckert (1:54)

We got a crazy deal on an Airbnb.

We got the whole thing for free just from points. So I was like, all right, cool.

Brian Hood (2:00)

I'm currently on my trip right now that is, by the time this episode airs, I'm well on that trip. And the reason I like Southeast Asia is, I've probably talked about this a bunch, but hotels are cheap. Three-star hotels, 40, 50 bucks a night. Four-star hotels, 50, 80 bucks a night. Five-star hotels, 100, 150 bucks a night. You can go up above that, but you can find really good hotels for really cheap prices.

It is really cheap to travel over there. So enough about travel, man. Let's transition into the episode we have planned for today. What are the biggest things that I see in our past guests, the most successful people that we've brought on the podcast? The overwhelming theme of all of the quote, like influential designers or illustrators or videographers we've had on the show, like the best of the best, the people earning the most, the people who have the largest social following and the biggest clout. Every single one of them, if you go back and listen to those episodes, have said that their email list was actually their most important asset when it came to the marketing of their business.

So I wanted to have a dedicated episode on this. If the social proof of those people alone that we found on this show aren't enough, and the social proof of just me and Mark both saying that our email lists are each of our most important assets in our own businesses, I want to try to convince you, the listener, who right now, you probably don't have an email list. You probably have considered it at some point, but you're not sure what to do. I want to have an entire episode dedicated to this, because this is one of the best ways to turn strangers into clients.
