Good news, ladies and gentlemen. Bob and I are back to our literary criticism and analysis series. Good news, right?

I'm going to let you tell the good folks what we're talking about today. But before we do, I'll just say that, I gave you a Batman story and then a nice Western. And then you gave me GK Chesterton and some deep, anarchic, religious, tightly worded prose. And then an even more highbrow one this week. And I'm like, Bob must think I'm an idiot. But then I thought about it a little more clearly. And it's like, no, no, no, I'm assigning you the lowbrow stuff. It must be that I think you're an idiot.
And then I felt better.

Yeah. No, the real reason is I'm just trying to convert you.

I know. I didn't even, it didn't even occur to me until you just said my choices. And I was like, oh my gosh, am I doing that? So anyway. Yeah. So the choice this week, folks, is Carl Jung's Answer to Job. And let me explain why I picked this.
I didn't clear it with her. I was talking with someone a few months ago who mentioned that she was reading this. And I didn't even know it was a thing. I was like, oh, what the heck is that? And I looked it up and it fascinated me because as the title suggests, so it's, it's the Jung, the one you've heard of if you've, you know, taken a Western Civ class or anything. And or if you listen to Jordan Peterson, he talks about Jung a lot. And so that's why it was on my radar.
I had known of him and I knew he had some unusual theories about the collective unconscious or something, you know, interesting stuff like that.
And anyway, so I had always had it in my bucket list. Like, I should read some stuff from that guy just to see where he's coming from because Jordan Peterson thinks so highly of him amongst other things. And so then when I saw this and then I went like to the Wikipedia entry for this particular book, His Answer To Job, that's the title of the book and saw what it was where Jung is basically saying, yeah, in the story of Job, and we'll talk a little bit about in case folks have no idea what that is in a minute, but to get up to speed for those who do, Jung is saying, you know what, God didn't give you a good answer, Job, let me do it for you, right? And to kind of write the scales here of justice because there's been this travesty that's unfolded over the centuries. So that's what the book is. And then also the more I read, and I don't know if this occurred to you, Adam, but it looked like I thought maybe, you know how we did that Daryl Cooper episode where he had talked about some of his medical views? One of them was like this theory, that Jung, so I wondered if Cooper had read this also, and that's where he got that particular one, which basically is that far from Jesus on the cross being us having to be reconciled to God because of our sin, it was like God basically getting right with us after what he did to Job. And so anyway, I thought that was all. So once I saw that, I was like, oh my gosh, we totally have to read that. And so that's what made me pick this thing.

Yeah, that's great, Bob, I'm in a very similar spot. Being a child of Western civilization, I'd heard the name Carl Jung an awful lot, but I'd never actually read him. But if you've heard anything about psychology, you know, there's the Freudians, the Jungians and the behaviorists and whatever other modern stuff they got going on now. But again, I've never actually read him. I listened to a whole bunch of Jordan Peterson lectures early on, you know, 2016, 2017
And except for what I absorbed through osmosis during those lectures, the only thing I really ever knew about Jung came to me from Stanley Kubrick, if you'll indulge me. I will.
