The Proactive AI Agent Race is On
AI Inside
October 1, 2026
This week Jason Howell and Jeff Jarvis tackle AI agents from every angle. Nvidia released an open source safety platform just as OpenAI launched Dots, always-on agents with their own cloud computers and app integrations. Meta unveiled the Muse Charm, a palm-sized AI device.

Humans will never be more intelligent than AI. There's going to be two types of companies.
Jason Howell (0:05)
Those are great at AI, and those that went out of business because they weren't.
SPEAKER_3 (0:09)
How do we build a future that is human-centered?
Jeff Jarvis (0:14)
I'm Rana El-Khaloubi, and on my podcast Pioneers of AI, we answer that question and so many more. As an AI scientist, entrepreneur, and investor, I know what it takes to build AI that works for everyone.
SPEAKER_4 (0:29)
Every week, I sit down with the pioneers shaping our future, and we take you behind the scenes of the AI that's transforming our lives. Find Pioneers of AI wherever you tune in.

Coming up next, Jeff Jarvis and I talk a little bit about Google Book because a couple of weeks ago Jeff went to an event. He couldn't talk about it last week, and he's got thoughts and I've got thoughts. A lot of talk about Google Book right at the top. Then we talk about Nvidia creating a hardware layer for keeping agents from breaking bad. I think it's a pretty interesting solution. OpenAI, Meta and Manus all suddenly diving deep into personal proactive, that's the keyword, agents that are also cute and fuzzy. Hey, I watched the AI Doc on Netflix while I was heading back from Maui last week, and I didn't jump off the plane while I was watching it. So, you know, success. That's all coming up next on AI Inside.
What's going on, everybody? Welcome to another episode of AI Inside, the show where we take a look at the AI that is layered throughout the world of technology. I'm one of your hosts, Jason Howell, joined again by Jeff Jarvis.
Jeff Jarvis (1:51)
We're back, Jeff.
Jason Howell (1:52)
Yay, we're back. We got our thing going.
Jeff Jarvis (1:56)
Jason works so hard, he has no tan.
Jason Howell (2:00)
Not true. I do have a tan, but it is a definite farmer's tan. I've got the stark white short-sleeved t-shirt thing. Yeah, Maui was great. It was a ton of fun. I'm so happy that I got to go to the event, the Snapdragon Summit event and be in Hawaii for a break. It was a much-needed break for me and for my family.
If you've got to work somewhere, you might as well work in Maui.
Jeff Jarvis (2:26)
That's what a few tech executives have to say, yes.
Jason Howell (2:32)
It's not quite a bunker, but it was a nice speech at least. How have you been? You had a thing last week, right?
Jeff Jarvis (2:39)
I did, yeah. I went to the Google Book event.
SPEAKER_4 (2:44)
So that was like two weeks ago.
Jeff Jarvis (2:45)
It was like two weeks ago, yes.
Jason Howell (2:47)
Yeah. And then last week you had something going on, right?
Wasn't there something? Maybe not. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm probably wrong. I thought that was a little bit weird. This is age.
Jeff Jarvis (2:57)
It's kind of the point, Jason. I'm looking at my calendar. Did I do something last week?
Jason Howell (3:01)
Don't worry about it. I'm probably fully backwards at this point.
Jeff Jarvis (3:05)
Oh yeah, I was in San Francisco. Oh, right. Right. Right. So that was interesting.
How soon we forget. So Handshake, which basically helps students get jobs when they graduate. When I was at CUNY, all of our students at all the jobs had to go through Handshake. They came up with a new product which enables students graduating and job seekers to use AI to create things, to create a portfolio of that, to show what they can do to employers.
Jason Howell (3:38)
So they're using AI to build a portfolio or they're using AI to collect all of their things that they've done outside of AI.
Jeff Jarvis (3:46)
They're using AI to build new products, new services, new whatever.
Jason Howell (3:50)
And those are their portfolio items.
Jeff Jarvis (3:51)
And then they can show that to the employer, look what I can do with AI.
SPEAKER_4 (3:54)
Got it. Which is very smart. Oh, I see.
Jeff Jarvis (3:55)
Well, that's cool. Yeah. So they can show themselves. So I moderated a panel about education and it was really interesting. One person from DeepMind, one from another one from OpenAI who had really interesting statistics, by the way. Just I'll throw this one thing out.
He said that in analyzing the use of ChatGPT in companies only 40% one way or 60% the other way, but almost half one way or the other of the queries are made outside of an employee's silo. That is to say, if you're in product, you use it to find out about marketing or about HR or about other issues, which really speaks to the desire of people to break out of their silos.
