Philadelphia's House of Horrors, the only House of Horrors, the Horsch family, you've been hearing about it in the headlines, and we're about to bring you a real definitive understanding of where we are at in this case. If that's what you're looking for, you've come to the right place. Back in 2014, a man in Philadelphia published a book under his own name called Empathy, the memoir of an empathetic serial killer.
I know, in it, he goes into vivid detail about strangling women heading over to an industrial plumbing supplier, buying a hundred pound drum of lye and dissolving her body in a basement and bathed him until absolutely nothing was left. He printed it under his actual name, and you can still find it online today. His name was Raymond RC. Horsch. He passed away in 2025 at 82 years old, having never been charged with a violent crime in his life. He left behind a son named Eugene, a home at 417 West Chu Avenue in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood, and never a charge. Over 50 million files, though, stored across 50 hard drives existed after RC left this mortal coil. Then in June of 26, a park ranger pulled Eugene's son over for a simple parking violation. What police uncovered during that routine stop blew the whole story wide open. Take a look. In June 2026, a massive police mobilization focused on a boarded uproar home at 417 West Ruscomb Avenue in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood. Inside, investigators found digital devices containing over 1 million files. The review process has so far identified 58 people in the footage, including five women who appear to be lifeless or deceased on camera. The property belonged to Eugene Horsch and his late father, RC. Horsch. While Eugene is currently in federal custody on firearms and drug charges, neither man has ever faced a murder charge. Without physical remains, the investigation remains stalled at the recovery of evidence. Seven women are currently linked to the property, including Gabriella Mirando, Maribel Flores, Nicole Fusaro, Amy McHale and Blair Tanzelli. All seven disappeared between 2012 and 2023 The existence of a million-file archive and seven missing persons cases suggests an operation that was active for two decades. The challenge for investigators now is explaining how this house functioned for 20 years without triggering a sustained intervention from the city's justice system. RC. Horsch was explicit about his activities. In a 2006 interview with Bizarre magazine, he labeled himself an empathetic, caring sexual predator. He explained that he targeted women struggling with addiction because their singular focus on drugs made them easy to control and manipulate. He maintained a public website where he charged subscription fees for access to a series called Thanatopause. The site hosted thousands of images of women in staged hangings and sadomasochistic scenarios, with Horsch noting that some of the photographs captured real overdose victims. In 2014, a newspaper asked if his exhibit was a catalog of victims. The warning drew no response. Authorities previously rated him in a 2009 marijuana bust recovering women's IDs alongside drugs. The DA took those IDs, but results were never shared. Horsch served time and returned home. These records suggest that RC. Horsch operated with a level of transparency that the justice system simply ignored, writing off his behavior as a drug-related eccentricity rather than a pattern of exploitation. As the filming continued, the community in Kensington saw a steady disappearance of its most vulnerable members. Between 2012 and 2023, the list of missing women with ties to the Olney House grew to include seven names. In June 2016, R.C.'s ex-wife Amy McHale went to 417 West Ruscombe Avenue and never left. Though she left a voicemail confirming her location and her family reported her missing shortly after, the house was never searched. RC told police she was simply gone when he woke up. The case of Blair Tanzelli followed a similar pattern in 2023 Friends traced the missing woman to the property where she had been working as an aid. While police were aware of her disappearance, a photograph of Tanzelli showing injuries remained on Horsch's public website for months. Even when police entered the house in May 2025 following a fire, the investigation remained narrow. They focused on a marijuana grow and chemical storage, failing to link the property to the missing persons cases. RC. Horsch died that same month and the investigation into the house essentially stopped. Eugene Horsch took over the property in early 2026 He was charged with a stabbing in Center City, but the case was withdrawn after a witness failed to appear. He was allowed to return to the fire-damaged house, which was still filled with cameras and the massive digital archive in the basement. The reality of the house was well known on the street. Witnesses like Mary Beth, a former roommate of Blair Tanzelli, described the Horschers using Kensington as a hunting ground. These warnings were available for years, but they existed within a population that the authorities rarely interviewed. The decades-long oversight ended not through a coordinated task force, but via a random traffic stop. On the morning of June 19, 2026, a US park ranger noticed a BMW parked illegally near Independence Mall. When the ranger approached, he heard a woman inside the car say, You're going to hurt me. The driver was Eugene Horsch. A search of the vehicle produced two guns with obliterated serial numbers, a cattle prod, handcuffs and drugs. Investigators also found fake DEA credentials featuring Eugene's photo. The critical link surfaced when the passenger handed over her identification. She provided a counterfeit ID manufactured by Eugene. But while it bore her own photo, the name on the card was Blair Tanzelli. A single counterfeit ID and a missing woman's name achieved what 20 years of public confessions and drug raids could not. This chance encounter finally forced a full homicide level investigation into the only property. The subsequent search of the house yielded 95 warrants worth of evidence. In the basement, police found zip ties, drums and five urns containing human remains, along with a handwritten note referencing Ted Bundy and trash that needs to go. The scale of the digital archive remains the primary challenge for the prosecution. As of late 2026, the technical teams have successfully reviewed only 30% of the 1 million recovered files. The long-term failure to intervene has created a lasting barrier to justice. Sixteen people identified alive in the digital files have refused to speak with the investigators, demonstrating a deep-seated distrust of the system that allowed the house to operate for so long. The Horschers maintained their operation by exploiting a fractured justice system that prioritized narcotics over the lives of marginalized women. By the time the house was finally searched, the systemic indifference had already silenced the very people whose testimony was needed most.
