It was, of course, Secretary Rubio in Greece yesterday speaking about the history of the West, its future, and the importance of the U.S.-European alliance. Good afternoon, I'm Drew Mariani. Great to be with you today. And we've got a fun show, a lot coming up here. I hope you can hang out with me throughout most of this. And I want you to be part of the conversation today. I wanna talk to you a little bit about America and what we're seeing, you know.

What is it about this great nation of ours, right? That has made us so extraordinary, you know. We often talk about American exceptionalism. And I do believe America is anointed. I believe God had his hand all over this. Even our founding has God's fingerprints. There were a lot of spiritual occurrences that took place. And look what happened in just a quarter, it says, in 250 years, the United States, we have helped transform the world through our commitment to liberty, ingenuity, our generosity. There's not a more generous nation on the planet. And I often ponder this, the extraordinary achievements of the United States of America. I mean, look at everything. Gosh, I could spend a half an hour talking about the great achievements of America, technologically, and what that has meant for the world, and how it's elevated living and increased wealth. And yet something very troubling is happening in this country right now. Increasingly, Americans are being taught to feel ashamed of this country.

You know, why? Somebody explain that to me. Americans are being taught to feel ashamed of our achievements, rather than grateful for the blessings that we have. How did we get here?

Why is it so important to rediscover the greatness of America, not only for ourselves, but for our children and our grandchildren? That's what we're going to explore today with Ambassador Joseph Cella. He's going to be stopping by, but I'll ask you one thing. They don't have the same view you do. There's so many Americans, particularly younger generations right now, that have developed a negative view of the country. Have our schools and universities, have they poisoned our children? Have they increasingly emphasized America's historical failures? Slavery was a dark chapter in US history. I mean, it's horrible. I think we'll look back at abortion the same way. But are they showing some of the founding sins, and are they, I don't know, presenting them at the expense of this nation's accomplishments? And what does the evidence actually show? And I'm not opposed to legitimate criticism of America's mistakes. I think it's healthy. And I think we have to distinguish between legitimate criticism and an ideological rejection of America itself. And that is what we are seeing today. Joining me right now, as I said, Ambassador Joseph Cella, it's a delight to have him here with us. A regular contributor on the show. You know that he's worked under the Trump administration. I invited him to stop by to give me his take. Also on what I thought was just an inspirational speech by Secretary Rubio the other day. Ambassador, great to have you with me. Good afternoon.

Thank you. Yeah, we're living in interesting times. I mean, Secretary Rubio, why do you think he said what he said yesterday and in that particular setting? And maybe you can unpack for those who may not be aware of seeing a little bit of his message.

Jacob Imam (4:29)

I think he said it because it's true and it's needed. And unfortunately, I would say for any number of decades, you could say probably beginning really of 20th century, if you wanted to start the look back machine when education pivoted away from the view of the human being as they were created by gods or to the need of what Pope Benedict called the integral human development. We have the trivium and the quadrivium, virtue, rhetoric, logic, the fundamentals. And it took a pivot away from that.
