Okay, our friends, so today we're reading a story for you because we went to the lighthouse. We live in a place where there are lighthouses, and the Pacific Northwest is full of them, and we went to one yesterday, and it was all alone, right?
Well, there was a troll nearby, but mostly it was just alone all the way out there. And so when I saw today's story, I thought we should read it.
**Philip** (1:05)
It had a bunch of shells around it.
**Lisa Bueno** (1:06)
It did have shells around it. And driftwood. And driftwood. Yeah. Pebbles and driftwood and shells.
Let's read about this story and then we can- And crabs. And crab parts. Yeah, and crab parts. Yeah.

But there's many names everywhere. The seagulls had made a feast. Now, let us read this story and then we can discuss. So today's story is called The Lonely Lighthouse. It's the story of the little Sable Point lighthouse. This story was written by Stephanie Owen and illustrated by Sonia Averikian. And it is read today by Mommy. And...
Philip! Philip! So let's get right down to it. Here we go. Many years ago, nestled among the sand dunes, a lighthouse began to rise high into the sky, brick by brick. It grew, and once it was finished, the lighthouse gazed over the shimmering water. It saw the boats sailing by and longed to share its light with them. And in the picture, we can see it. It is a beautiful lighthouse. Now, as I mentioned earlier, this particular lighthouse is called the Little Sable Point Lighthouse. And it is actually in Michigan. And it points its light out towards Wisconsin. It's in the United States, but it's on a lake, Lake Michigan. Okay, so you've got that in your head. But the lighthouse could not share its light on its own. It needed someone to ignite its spark. And soon, a keeper came along. Now, a lighthouse keeper's job is very important, okay? Listen to this. Every morning, the lighthouse awoke to the keeper.
Every morning, the lighthouse awoke to the keeper, sweeping out the sand that had sifted in during the night. And every afternoon, it waited patiently as he cleaned its windows. And every night, it held its breath as the keeper climbed the spiraling steps to ignite the oil that lit its lamp. Because as you know, it's a tall building, right? And so there's a lot of steps to go way up to the top, and that's where the fire is, right? Okay. Years passed and through winter snows and summer heat and stormy rains and gentle breezes, the keeper cared for the lighthouse, and the lighthouse shared its light. And we can see it in the pictures. The seasons have gone through, and it looks like the lighthouse is still standing strong, right?
But one day, the keeper left to start a new job. As much as he loved the lighthouse, he knew it was time for a new adventure. Who would the lighthouse share its light with now?
I don't know. It's a good question. So in the picture, we can see him leaving. He's an old man now, right? The next morning, the lighthouse awoke to another keeper, sweeping out the sand that it sifted in during the night. And that afternoon, it waited patiently as he cleaned its windows. And that night, the lighthouse held its breath as the keeper climbed the spiraling steps to ignite its lamp. And together, they shared its light. Over the years, the keeper grew old and could no longer care for the lighthouse, and he had to leave. And another keeper came and went. And then another and another. Do you see what's going on here? That lighthouse is not changing. But the people are. So, together, the lighthouse and each keeper experienced many things. Some things were exciting, and some things were new, and some things were sad. And yet, through winter snows and summer heat and stormy rains and gentle breezes, each keeper cared for the lighthouse, and the lighthouse shared its light. And then one morning, the lighthouse awoke startled to find strange men climbing its steps to the top. And they took away the lighthouse's oil lamp and replaced it with an electric light bulb. And they tramped down the steps and locked its door behind them.
