Mental Performance Playbook

October 27, 2026

Your athlete learns a great mental exercise on Monday. By Friday's game, it's gone. That's not a lack of effort, it's how the brain works, and there's a way to beat it. Welcome to Day 9 of 75 on the Mental Performance Playbook.

Boom, poof, it's gone. The Curve of Forgetting, the Curve of Performance, Mental Training, and Doubling Down, and Making Sure. We are setting ourselves up and our student athletes up for the best success that they can have. Where does this come from?

Recently, we were having some sessions, and we were asked, how often, how long should we have a discrepancy, a difference between the training sessions? And there is a two-part answer to this. And what we are going to get on the whiteboard here in a second, on our mental training session with the board, is going to be first off, this Curve of Forgetting by Ebbinghaus, I believe is the name. Oh yeah, that's it, that's it, Ebbinghaus.

And what this is, is how often and how quickly we can forget things. So there is two pieces that we are going to cover here today. For one, of just forgetting and making sure we get the training in, and the accountability of mental training with someone like us at TAH who knows what we are doing and what we need to add on next and what we need to be training and adding on and how to do it. Because other people do know, some parents know.

But then it's, okay, how do we actually communicate this, get that message across, get them doing it in a way that they want to do it, etc.

That's part one or part two probably because part one is going to be just the way of implementing it. Because without that training, then you got nothing to implement. But with the training, then we have to double down and double down again and double down again and make sure that we are constantly priming and training and working and honing and crafting and sculpting. Notice I never said grinding. Every once in a while we do use the word grinding, but I don't like it as much because that implies tearing down to never really get back up. Grinding to dust, we like to build diamonds, not dust. When you're grinding it turns it into dust. We like any of those other words that we're using.

So with that said, we're about to pull out the whiteboard session here on the Mental Performance Playbook. And if you're new here, you're probably like, what's the Mental Performance Playbook? What's TAH? Who's this guy? My name is Gabe. I am the founder of TAH, transitioning into, I'll release this now, Top Athlete Habits, was the Athletes Health for the longest time, but for various different reasons, this is part of our launch coming up. We've got some super exciting things come the new year. With that, we wanted to do something exciting, and with the whiteboard mental training sessions picking up, we decided let's go 75 days of free mental training sessions for our audience, our athletes, our parents, our coaches that listen in to keep the mental training going. Mental Performance Playbook here is episodes for elite mental exercises and having them be distilled for free into actionable mental exercises for our student athletes or their parents, their coaches, their supporters to go out and apply immediately. And that's what we do here. It's been a fun journey so far. I'm glad you are here now. If you're checking this out, or if you've been one of our regulars, once again, make sure you are subscribed while you're going up there, like the video. Make sure to share it with someone too, because that's how we've been growing. Someone who is trying to reach that next level, who knows that that mental training is just as important as the physical side. If you've watched some of our other videos, you know it's just as much at one point, definitely more important too.

So, while you're going on and doing that, we are going to pull up the whiteboard and let's get that whiteboard mental training session going. Whiteboard is up now, let's get going. Training, forgetting and mental performance, the three keys to our success today in this session, in these episodes making the absolute most of it. Like I said, we're going to be breaking down coming from folks, two main pieces of this that we are going to be looking at. And yeah, we can make the line that way. The first piece that we're going to be looking at is the question of mental training sessions and then mental training application.

Mental training sessions will be the first piece. And then.

Mental training application will be what we go over after that. And I will be the first one to say this, that oh yeah, it would be awesome if you did some mental training with us at TAH. I would love it if you hop in before the new year, before we have some new stuff coming. But you don't have to, okay?
