The Doctor Who Caught What Dee Dee Was Doing to Gypsy Rose and Stayed Quiet

Today, it's all about Gypsy Rose Blanchard. What made her into the person she is today? What happened all the way back with mom? There's interesting allegations that are out there these days that were not there back in 2024 when she got released. And then we go all the way to everything and then eventually a dead fiance.

How did we get here? Well, we're going to break this all down psychologically today. Shavaun Scott, a psychotherapist and author, is with us, along with Robin Drake, retired FBI Special Agent, Chief of the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program and Master Class Instructor. Shavaun, way back in January 24, we were having this conversation about DeeDee Blanchard after Gypsy's release. And we walked through Munchausen by proxy, what it is, how DeeDee used it. Since then, because the world is the way it is, something unexpected has happened. A growing number of people online, led by some very specific people, have basically created some sort of society here where they believe that Gypsy, Gypsy Rose really didn't, was the one that was using DeeDee the whole time. It was somehow the other way around. Despite there being a lot of evidence to the contrary. She's a kid. And when we're talking about reality here, it's another situation where I'm really kind of baffled by it.

It seems to have notes, tasting notes, if you will.

Of a little bit of Clancy-ism in here, where reality might be a little bit too iccy. So we're going to invent some other reality over here that doesn't really exist to make it more palatable. I don't know. There's a lot of questions that I have. And we're going to start our conversation today talking about that, about the folks that believe that Gypsy Rose was the one who used DeeDee, her mother the whole time, and DeeDee is just the innocent victim here. Let's start with the negative biopsy, a muscle biopsy done when Gypsy was a child, came back negative for muscular dystrophy. Her neurologist in Springfield, Missouri ran MRIs and blood work all clean. He watched her stand up on her own from a wheelchair and said she'd been in it for years. For the people in our audience who've heard the claim that none of this happened, walk us through what a clinician sees when every test comes back negative and the mother keeps insisting that her child is dying, like DeeDee did to doctors for more than a decade.

I'm always going to be honest. Sure. Kids are not that powerful. And it's very clear that DeeDee was molding this child from the get-go, had an agenda. It's classic Munchausen by proxy, factitious disorder enacted on another would be the technical name. And there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that that's a silly, silly thing. People love their conspiracies. They absolutely love it. They love the attention they get from, well, I've got special knowledge and I know the truth.

It's just silly. It's silly. Does it get attention? Sure. People see this new theory and they click on it and it builds the sensationalism around the case and turns Gypsy into a monster, which is...

So actually, and actually, Shavaun, let's do a thought experiment with it.

Hey, if we want to flush that out even a little bit, what's the probability? I mean, does it ever happen that a child or let's, because someone's saying, well, she was 18 or 20, you know, one time, she's even manipulating more. All right, so does any human being, before that prefrontal cortex fully formed or even at any point in their lives, because she actually has the scars from the feeding tube, she's missing all of her front bottom teeth that they had to be, she had to have new caps put on, I mean, all the scars that she has physically, let alone emotionally, does any human being during that timeframe in life, have you ever been aware of any other human being ever doing that kind of self-harm to themselves for the sole reason to manipulate a parent?
