Brian & Kenzie on Q101 with a fact that makes your brain go.
And this involves where you live. And if you're lucky enough at this point to own a place, God bless. But some people own a place and they want to sell it, and it's something different. But because of the economy, you say you could sell your place and make a ton of money, but the problem is then you can't afford a new home. So people are home remodeling more than ever. So there's a new feature that people are adding to their homes. They're calling home remodelers and say, I want this in my home because I'm going to be here a while, maybe the rest of my life. And this is the biggest one for 2026
Yet to be determined if it's going to add or decrease value to your home because it's all happening this year. But Kenzie, this is the biggest thing people are asking for to remodel and do this to their house. And it's in 2026
Kenzie (0:53)
And you don't know if it added value to their home?
Brian (0:55)
Well, because it's big this year, and it's hard to say if you try to resell it, let's say in three years, if it's going to be worth money or it's going to add value to your house or not. But people want this in their home right now so bad that you can't even get a home remodeler. They're so busy, backed up because of people requesting this, that there's not even any available. It's getting really hard to get this put in your house.
Kenzie (1:16)
Is it people who are remodeled in their closets to fit washers and dryers in there?
Brian (1:21)
Interesting. Explain please a little more.
Kenzie (1:23)
I have seen this now. Even my mom did the parade of homes. She's like, why does everyone feel like they need three washers and dryers? Is it that hard to go up and down the stairs or whatever to get to one?
I have seen some homes with one set, an upstairs set and a downstairs set. I've seen that. Sometimes they're adding even more than that, and they're putting them in different closets now throughout the house. It's like, all the laundry in this room can just be done in this. I think I'm going to have a harder time tracking down where all the laundry is. Where's my underwear?
SPEAKER_6 (1:52)
Which one is that in? I can't find this anywhere.
Brian (1:55)
So a washer and dryer in every room.
SPEAKER_6 (1:57)
Yeah, I just like, what is happening in that room?
Kenzie (2:02)
I don't have an issue. I have no issue with my one set downstairs.
SPEAKER_6 (2:08)
I'm okay with getting up and down the stairs when it happens.
Kenzie (2:11)
I don't think it's that big a video.
Brian (2:13)
Is your washer and dryer in the main floor, the basement or upstairs?
Kenzie (2:17)
Main floor.
So, I mean, my room and all the kids' rooms and stuff are upstairs. So, I have to carry all that down. I don't have an on floor washer dryer for that, but I don't think it's that big of a deal to do.
Brian (2:34)
It sounds like you're reverse manifesting. You want that washer and dryer upstairs, but you're saying, I don't need it.
Kenzie (2:39)
I mean, I want a house big enough for that, and that's a different conversation.
But I just, my mom went to the, there was like a parade of homes where you buy those tickets to like go through all the like the newer homes, where this got built. And she did that. And this house had four washers and dryers. And she goes, they were just scattered in weird places. Like, she's like, what? Some of them were on the same floor.
Brian (3:03)
It had four sets?
Kenzie (3:04)
Four sets. It was like this. She's like, it's like they were trying to make the house bougie. She was like, but it just, all of it looked like a lot of work.
Everything they added to this house was like laborious. Like she said that they had built in coffee machines, but they had like three or four of them. And I'm like, oh, that's going to be a bit, you're going to have to clean out all those, wash those. Like it was just weird. It's just so, yeah, just like a lot of labor.
Brian (3:31)
Okay, good guess. Good guess on that. So Kay, same question.
This is the biggest request that people are calling home remodelers for, and they want it right now. Now, again, we'll have to wait and see if this adds or takes value away from your home, but people want it now because they're saying, hey, I'm staying put in this house. I want this.
