The Big Boo Cast
October 8, 2026
Melanie and I both went to games at our alma maters this past weekend (worked out better for Mel than it did for me despite the Aggies' questionable uniforms), so on this episode we talk about our times in College Station and Starkville - along with other college football developments from this...

Hey, everybody, this is Sophie and welcome to Episode 515 of The Big Boo Cast. On this episode, Melanie is going to talk about her trip to College Station, I'm going to talk about my trip to Starkville, and we're also going to talk about just a couple of Side Eyes and I See Yous. We've both been watching some television that's new to us, so we'll talk about that, and it is my turn for Five Favorites. We would love for you to join us on Patreon. If you haven't done that yet, it's at patreon.com/bigboo. Our most recent episode is our October Southern Living episode. As always, it was so much fun to talk through everything that was in that issue. And we have a couple of really insightful episodes coming up in October. We also have Book Club in October, which is a good reminder that we need to pick a book. We would also be so happy for you to stop by our Amazon shop to see some of the things that we love and love to use. That's at amazon.com/shop/bigboo.
And finally, our live show in Dallas is sold out for in-person tickets, but there are live stream tickets available and you can find a link for that in the show notes. There's also a ticket resale post that's on our Patreon. It's a public post and so if you need in-person tickets or you need to sell your tickets, you can check that out.
All right, y'all, here we go with episode 515 We're so happy you're here and we hope you enjoy it.
Hey, everybody, this is Sophie. This is Big Mama.
Melanie Shankle (1:45)
Hey, it's Melanie. It's Big Mama.
Sophie Hudson (1:47)
Well, some things have happened.
Melanie Shankle (1:49)
They have. Some things, some football things have happened. Your bulldogs had their first loss of the season.
Sophie Hudson (1:56)
They certainly did. And man, listen, they did it up.
They lost impressively. They lost.
Melanie Shankle (2:04)
To a very good Alabama team.
Sophie Hudson (2:06)
To a very good Alabama team. We can break it all down. But I wasn't heartbroken or anything because it was clear, I would say, from the time we stepped foot in Starkville almost, that the injuries on our team were maybe more significant than we had known.
Melanie Shankle (2:25)
Yeah.
Sophie Hudson (2:28)
Which was not really surprising because I did feel like we were pretty banged up after the Missouri Gang.
Melanie Shankle (2:32)
Yeah.
Sophie Hudson (2:33)
But still, there was lots of good from the day. But my sister and I went to Starkville early Saturday morning.
You went to College Station.
Melanie Shankle (2:44)
Yes, I did.
Sophie Hudson (2:46)
You had a victory on your side of things.
Melanie Shankle (2:48)
We did. We'll say it was a victory.
Well, sure.
Sophie Hudson (2:55)
What would the score have had to be in order for you to have walked away, really feeling like maybe some things were turning around?
Melanie Shankle (3:04)
Here's what I'm going to say. I felt like the score was fine. I feel like that Arkansas game, crazy things happened before I even knew the way. Remember in August, I was like, I'm worried about the chemo uniforms, which valid by the way, they looked horrible. They were horrendous.
Sophie Hudson (3:19)
My favorite take on the uniforms came from one of the podcast listeners who messaged me to tell me that she had figured out what it was, that they look like spoiled potato salad.
Melanie Shankle (3:31)
That's exactly what they look like. They looked like spoiled potato salad. They did not. Now, I will say, I was at the game. I thought the end zones, they had done the end zones in camo with a maroon Texas A&M. I thought they looked good. But Gully and I agreed, we could have just done the camo end zone.
Sophie Hudson (3:47)
Yeah, I think that's a good look actually.
Melanie Shankle (3:48)
Yeah, and then opted for just a maroon uniform.
The camo, I didn't think looked great, and we won. But that's a game I would have said we should have won by that much. But what I'm going to say, I will continue to say, after watching that game, even in the victory, I have some questions and I have some concerns. I mean, listen, I don't mean to Arkansas, y'all are down bad. I mean, that is not a good football team. So we just agreed, here's the thing, the Aggies go to Missouri and play at Missouri this weekend.
Sophie Hudson (4:22)
It's gonna be rough.
Melanie Shankle (4:23)
It's gonna be rough. It's 11 a.m. I feel like we'll know a lot more. So I'm not gonna, like nothing in me, I feel like everybody left the stadium and we were like, okay, you know, like, all right, we won, but that's a game we should have won. And if we hadn't, listen, if we hadn't of blink, blink.
