St. Louis City swing big, Chucky Lozano’s San Diego return & more! | MLS Update

Hello, everybody, and welcome to the Total Soccer Show. That was a big one. My name is Taylor Rockwell. It is Tuesday. It's time to talk some Major League Soccer. We've got transfers. We've got cashfers. We've got new coaches. We've got Chucky Lozano. That can't possibly be right. Joe Lowry, lots of ground to cover, but I'm going to start off on an obvious note, a hypothetical note. If you were the subject of a cashfer, which team would you most want to be making that offer for whatever reason? Could be the destination, could be the team itself, whatever you want it to be. Could be one teammate if I get Inter Miami is a fair answer to all of these things.

**Joe Lowry** (0:55)
My answer is it's whichever team is going to be willing to pay the most money beyond what they should pay. I think that's in three buckets right now. That's either Miami, Atlanta, or sporting Kansas City. It's one of those three owners that are willing to sign basically blank checks right now, which I appreciate as a neutral observer of the league. But also the thing about cashfers, if you're the player moving, you get 10 percent of the feet. I just want those teams to keep bidding and I'll take my check, thank you very much, and go off into the corner, and then sign a new contract with my new team. That sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
I think I figured it out.

So Miami, Atlanta, or Sporting KC, I'm going to hold the feet to the fire, Joe. I'm going to need an answer. So they've all made gigantic offers that are the exact same amount. You get it.

**Joe Lowry** (1:34)
Genuinely, I think I would enjoy living in Kansas City the most of any of those places. It might just be because of barbecue. Also, I'm just not cut out for the Inter Miami life. I'm not. I would fold under the scrutiny that happens there inside of that club. In Atlanta, I'm just not messing with right now.
I think I just prefer not to be there. So come on down, Joe Lowry. It's barbecue time, baby.

I think I would say LAFC because generally they still have this aura of if they are making a move, it's smart and good and they know something we don't. So even if I'm in pretty bad form, I will still be able to look good. People will be like, wow, LAFC wants him. We should want him to. What's going on? So I think that that would be nice. I would like that for my reputation if I'm a cash for.

So Los Angeles and Kansas City. All right. We like for like got the answer. I hope that Joe's going to hold out to make them change the name back to the Wiz. If so, then more power to you, Joe. It's some heroic work by you.

Yeah, that's exactly my plan. Every bit of it.

And since you're going to be such a hero, Joe, I will ask you to start us off with which transfer cash for move, whatever you want to go with, would you most like to discuss? Which one do you think is the biggest potential impact for whatever reason?

**Joe Lowry** (3:00)
Yeah, I'm fascinated by St. Louis City's acquisition of Rafael Navarro, which is not fully done and dusted and announced as we're recording, but we very much expect that deal to get done. It's been reported in multiple places, but Tom Bogard of The Athletic, of course, has been on this. And all this stuff, I'd go follow Tom to go and get your transfer window run down. We'll be doing plenty of that here as well, of course. I think Navarro is a brilliant player, an absolutely brilliant player and sort of the kind of player that is one of those, hey, there's 30 teams in MLS, everybody can't be familiar with everybody, sorts of players. He's been a good striker in MLS for a while, but I think there's a lot of folks out there who maybe don't know just quite how good he is and quite what he can offer the St. Louis team. So they have reportedly set down a $12 million check to the Colorado Rapids. And that's the second now big outgoing sale for the Rapids. And that's fueling some income from them, which we can maybe talk about as well very briefly later on. But this is $12 million flowing from St. Louis to the Rapids.
