News When You Want It with Bloomberg News Now, I'm Nathan Hager. The final decision of the Supreme Court's term is a loss for President Donald Trump in his immigration agenda. In a divided ruling, the justices have rejected the president's planned restrictions on birthright citizenship. Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall is outside the Supreme Court.

The decision is not necessarily surprising, right? We got those signals from the justices. President Trump himself had even indicated that he did not think that the justices were going to rule in his favor because they really seemed to get signal that they were skeptical of that attempt to end automatic citizenship under this executive order that President Trump signed on his very first day in office, which essentially would have restricted birthright citizenship to those with at least one parent who was a US citizen or green card holder, which meant that children born to those on temporary visas would not be eligible, for example.

Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall outside the Supreme Court, where the justices also threw out longstanding federal limits on political party spending in coordination with candidates. That was a 6-3 decision down ideological lines. The justices also upheld state laws that allow transgender women and girls to be barred from competing in their school's female athletic teams.
