Getting ready for new trade negotiations with new tariffs on the way.
From Marketplace in Washington, I'm Kimberly Adams. Canada and Mexico are getting very different treatment from the Trump administration when it comes to trade. Tomorrow, US. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will travel to Mexico for talks on revising the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement. And even though Canada's name is in that deal, the country is not invited. In fact, our neighbors to the north are facing new US tariffs, as Marketplace's Nancy Marshall Ginzer reports.

**Nancy Marshall-Genser** (1:33)
President Trump has imposed 50 percent tariffs on certain Canadian products worth nearly $20 billion.
He's claiming that Canada has unfairly discriminated against US dairy products, autos and alcohol. The White House says the new duties will cover Canadian goods ranging from wine to hockey sticks to cement. The new import taxes won't apply to products covered by the Trump administration's steel and aluminum tariffs. Fish, energy and critical minerals are also exempted, and the tariffs won't take effect for 30 days. The new duties will apply to Canadian products covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA. Earlier this month, President Trump decided not to renew the trade agreement, so it will expire in 10 years, unless the US., Canada and Mexico can agree on improvements. US. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is expected to discuss cars, steel and aluminum, agriculture, and electronic payment services when he's in Mexico this week. Formal USMCA negotiations with Canada haven't started yet.

From data center construction to job cuts across the tech sector, AI is a growing concern for voters and labor organizers ahead of the midterms. The transition to an AI economy could benefit some workers while displacing others. But who gets to decide just how this transition will go?
The AFL-CIO, the nation's largest coalition of labor unions, is demanding a role. I recently sat down with the president of the AFL-CIO, Liz Schuller, at the Aspen Institute's Business and Society Summit. We were talking about all of this. Here's part of the conversation. You told some world leaders at Davos that if we don't manage the transition to AI well, people could revolt. Say more.

**Liz Shuler** (5:33)
We've been working on this issue of AI and how it relates to work for several years and it's now starting to get more attention, thankfully. But if you see what's already happening to jobs and what AI is already displacing and multiply that times infinity, that's going to create a lot of harm and a lot of disruption.
