Jim Cramer (1:02)
It's Jim Cramer here. You're listening to the opening bell of CNBC Squawk on the Street. Don't miss a minute of the action.
Carl Quintanilla (1:09)
Good Tuesday morning. Welcome to Squawk on the Street. I'm Carl Quintanilla with Jim Cramer and David Faber at Post 9 of the New York Stock Exchange. Today is a big day for Jim. His new book, How To Make Money In Any Market hits bookstore shelves today. We're going to talk about it in just a few minutes. Meantime, we do close out the quarter. Some government shutdown jitters. Bond yields are lower. Dow S&P on pace for their fifth consecutive monthly gain. Our roadmap begins with this possible shutdown just hours away. Health care spending a major obstacle in negotiations on Capitol Hill.
David Faber (1:40)
Plus, it is the last trading day of September and the quarter. The S&P is on pace for what would be its fifth straight month of gains. There would be six straight for the NASDAQ. And of course, we'll talk about the essay to the AI. Arms race. We've got new numbers from Open AI on how much money it's generating. We've got some CoreWeave, Meta news, IPOs that are interesting.
SPEAKER_6 (2:00)
Lots of stuff for you.
Jim Cramer (2:01)
Yeah, thank you. CoreWeave, how about that, man? And Trader, Jersey Mike.
David Faber (2:04)
Oh, there we go again. Every time, same thing.
Carl Quintanilla (2:07)
Let's start, though, with this potential.
Jim Cramer (2:09)
$14 billion contract. He says everything is it.
Carl Quintanilla (2:11)
We're going to get to it.
Jim Cramer (2:12)
We used to think that was a lot of money.
Carl Quintanilla (2:14)
We did, involving Meta. Yes, indeed.
David Faber (2:16)
But not anymore.
Carl Quintanilla (2:17)
The shutdown, though, is the lead. This is what the president said a few moments ago about the impact the shutdown might have on federal jobs.
SPEAKER_9 (2:25)
Is there any shutdown?
SPEAKER_10 (2:26)
How many federal workers do you plan to lay off?
SPEAKER_11 (2:29)
Well, we made you a lot, and that's only because of the Democrats. And as you know, they wanted to be able to take care of people that come into our country illegally. And no system can handle that.
Carl Quintanilla (2:41)
So there is the employment aspect. There's the data and data collection aspect out of both BLS and commerce, Jim. FEMA, WIC, bunch of things at risk here.
Jim Cramer (2:49)
But I did point out that the Bank of America did a great piece on Friday talking about the last six government shutdowns dating back to 1990 And they found that this is that four out of six times stocks actually went up from one week before the shutdown to one week after. And remember, some of these were involving debt ceiling. These are terrible. I think everyone would say that if 900,000 people were furloughed, that's going to be a very tough time for those people. But David, furlough different from terminate.
David Faber (3:15)
Totally. I mean, short shutdown, no real market impact. Longer shutdown, we'll see. And let's talk about it when it's longer.
Jim Cramer (3:25)
Right. Longer shutdown, then J-PAL doesn't have the data. But you don't need a weatherman to know which weather wind blows. That's true.
David Faber (3:31)
Although you made an unemployment report. All right. Are we good with that? Can we move on then to talk about the market?
Jim Cramer (3:35)
Yeah. We're good with that. I think it's like what people are talking about.
